Hi ladies,

Last weekend, I was getting some sun and had a very familiar feeling - braxton hicks. Mine are really unique in that they take my breath away (not in the painful sense, but they make my lungs tingle - weird, I know). They lasted a couple hours and I've been having them regularly since. They make me hyper aware of where my uterus is and it's weird feeling tightening so low. I started having bh with my dd around 10w. I also had them all day long, every day with her. I seriously had them so often that if I went an hour without several, I would take notice. They have always been intense, not painful, but intense. They just became part of life.

So, I went digging and discovered that BH do indeed begin at 6w, but most women don't feel them. Have any of you experienced this? I wonder why I have so many and feel them so soon. Any ideas? They never bring cervical changes.

Yes. I think I was six weeks with my third son. My midwife told me to lay off the RRL tea for a while, and make sure I was drinking lots of water. Once I did that, they held off.

Yup - unmistakable! They don't feel like menstrual cramps, more of an all-over tightening that doesn't hurt. They've been happening when I get really tired and am overdoing it.

I'm 11w and this is my 4th. I think they start earlier with each pregnancy.

Ahhh good! I'm not alone!

I drink a ton of water and don't think I'm overdoing it. I increased my water intake a few days ago, as I was thinking maybe I was dehydrated. Maybe i'll increase it some more and see what happens.

Thanks for responding!

So glad I am not the only one!
I think because it is my 5th pregnancy and I know the feeling I can tell that is what that weird strange pulling and fullness is.
It isn't happening often, but sure is funny to think that they are happening already!

Ah. That might explain some things! I never knew they started that early. I notice it when I go to bed, because I'm not so distracted by other things. Mine are really intermittent, though, and I know I'm not drinking enough water...I'll work on upping that!

I am already feeling round ligament stretching too. And I was not able to lay a finger on the occasional heaviness I was feeling, this would explain it!

LOL! This is how I discovered I was pregnant (this is #5)!!! I coughed and had rather severe (and suprising!!) round ligament pains and thought... oh my gosh... no WAY am I pregnant! It was day 15 past ovulation!!! But then the next day my temp was still high (I chart) and the next... so day 17 I hopped on here just to read and chat and after reading everyone elses' posts of being suprised to be pregnant, I thought, what the heck.... you know you probably are, so why not check? So I poas and there it was, little blue +. I wasn't suprised to test positive, because those round ligament pains had already clued me in!!!

I have just started having BH today and I was a little suprised that they're so early and I'm feeling them. I'm 6w2d today.

My concern is not for BH but for afterpains. I had an easy labor with 3 and 4, but the afterpains were HORRBILE, worse than labor, with 4. I am really worried about that! I didn't even want to nurse because I knew it would make more ctx and hurt more!!! Of course, I did nurse, but I really didn't want to because of the pain!!!!

Anyone have good remedies for afterpains? I didn't do much but suffer through them last time. Tylenol was usless.

I can't personally testify to it (this is my first preg trying it so we'll see) but RRL tea is suppose to make after pains none existent....if you just onto the thread Raspberry leaf tea tribe there are alot of birth stories and most of them will tell you they had a shortend labor and no after pains

just had to chime in.....

I had a lot of BH with DD, mainly during running. But they always stopped when i stopped, and they were never much of a concern for me. I have had a few with this pregnancy (9 wks right now), but only when I'm nursing, which makes some sense.

As for RRL, i drank it religiously with DD. Like a cup a day for each trimester i was in (1 day for first, 2 for second, etc.) and had a crazy short labor- 4 hours from start to finish, only pushed for 15 minutes. I definitely credit that to the tea.

That being said, i had CRAZY bad afterpains. Supposedly, most first-time moms don't have them, so i was super shocked. They were incredibly painful- i felt like an idiot for having a natural birth, then asking for the ibuprofen. But ibuprofen definitely helped. That's been my experience- ibuprofen is better (for me) for muscle aches/pains than tylenol.
