You don't have a history of asthma, do you?

I am asthmatic and it has affected this pregnancy from the second the test stick read positive. Very sudden and bizarre. I find that resting in a reclined position (sitting folds me half and can make breathing harder) makes it better. But I also have to nebulize every day (although I am feeling much better these days so I am cutting that back).

I felt the same way from about 7 weeks on and couldn't figure it out. finally went to the dr and discovered I have asthma. I had it in high school but haven't had issues with it for years, but my brother has it severely and it runs in the family. Turns out mine kicks in more when I'm PG. Go figure! Anyway, it might be worth the trip to your dr to get checked out and get some peace of mind. I felt conflicted about using the inhaler while PG but realized that if I'm not getting enough oxygen neither is the baby. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I too am terribly short of breath during pregnancy. I can't clean the house while talking on the phone anymore!
In fact, I can't do ANYthing while talking at the same time, I get too winded!
I can't move as fast as normal. I can't run up the stairs & scurry across the living room while carrying my toddler, I just end up panting & uncomfortable. I love being a big old slow, winded, sloth.

hmmmm....

i have been having the same kind of thing (though not quite as intense)...shortness of breath, funny breathing rythms (like when reading out loud to my son or chatting on the phone...i have to take these extra funny breaths!). i do have asthma on occasion but this seems really unrelated ??!!

my accupuncturist said it could be related to my kidneys....hmmmmm....she did a treatment for it and i did notice an improvementm and i do believe in the interconnectedness of our bodies but I didn't quite grasp that exact connection! on the kidney front though...drinking lots of water (which we should all be doing anyway) seems to help. another thing that she (and others) suggested is doing deep breathing excercises...while stretching, bathing, saying prayers or meditating, etc. i have started doing prenatal yoga and i swear i am ridiculous at trying to breath "right" with the stretches. i get all mixed up. but i know that it really isn't about "right" or "wrong". the point is to center and breath deeply, however you need to do it, especially if it is new.

HadhratKhadija...this may be too personal and just say so if it is...but I noticed your name and little Muslim Mama icon...my husband and I are Muslim and I don't know if you do the prayers but one thing I have been doing is reciting them a lot slower and breathing deeper between lines and I think it is helping. My husband is really supportive of going a bit slower when we pray together and he helps me pace it so I remember to breath deeply and not get too short of breath. We also do remembrance practice outloud together sometimes and I think the rythym of saying the Name in recitation helps my breathing. Anyway...just in case those are interesting tips...there they are! Otherwise...please ignore!!!

I hope you find some relief!

hey salaam mamarue!

really the kidneys and breathing? gosh i hope i dont have any problems with my kidneys. id drink more water but sheesh im already going to the bathroom every 30 min. im really starting to hate the bathroom.

funny u mentioned the prayers, cause i think it was yesterday that i was really short of breathe just moving my lips and quietly saying them. so i had to just try to say it in my mind and not move my lips cause i couldnt breathe!

i get really out of breath when i am trying to tell dh about something that i am even a little excited about. but i noticed even today when i was just sitting at the table by myself drawing i was really short on breath.

ive never had ashtma or anything like this. i wish there was like a home remedy or something.

Salaam alaikum!

No no...don't go worrying about your kidneys. Accupuncture/Chinese Medicine treats "imbalances" and stuff that is certainly valid but not something you should worry about. Probably all of our kidneys are getting a workout with the extra fluids and peeing all the time!!!

Might not hurt to talk to your midwife about the breathing thing next time you see her...but of course if it gets scary or alarming you should get it checked out right away. (pardon the mom tone...yikes!)

I hear you about getting excited and then getting all out of breath. How wierd??!!! I have been doing the same thing and it sounds like a lot of other mamas have too.

My DH and DS are playing a board game that totally needs to wrap up soon because bedtime has come and gone. It is so hard somtimes to stick to bedtime when DS has been whining all day and is just now finally a happy camper. Just when you want to say "ok...time to get ready for bed!" so you can hear the whining again. Arggh!

blessings!

I get winded easily right now, but I kind of think I might be anemic. I've been on advair before when I had a really bad case of bronchitis, my dr called it "allergies" b/c I had a cough I couldn't get rid of, but I never totally bought that explanation. The inhaler worked though.
