In my other pregnancies, I was pretty good about checking to see if they would come off and then taking them off for the last couple months before they got stuck. This time I guess I waited too long b/c I can't get them off at all. I think baby is probably coming fairly soon - is there some reason I should try to get them off, or can they just stay where they are until my fingers are back to normal again? It's just a wedding/engagement ring set.

I have a ring on my finger that it hard to get off on normal days, and definitely wasn't coming off in those last few weeks of labor. I kept it on and had no problems. However, if your fingers are very swollen and the rings begin to hurt then I would definitely seek out a way to have them removed.

If you decide to try to get them off, try a cold water soak and see if that shrinks the finger at all. Obviously use lotion or soap or something. If that doesn't work have someone wrap dental floss around your finger, just above the ring and keep wrapping until up above your knuckle...you need to wrap it kinda tight, but only for a minute. You should be able to get the ring off over the floss. I've never met one I couldn't get off that way! The thing nurses learn sometimes

I would try to take them off - if your hands swell anymore they could cut off circulation and then it becomes an emergency to get them off so you don't loose the finger.

soak your hand in cold water, then rub some ky jelly (yes, the lube) on your finger and the ring should slide off. it has the bonus of being water soluble so it will wash off the rings and not damage them

I have a friend who had to get hers cut off
: I would try the methods above, and remain calm while trying. I got a ring stuck on my finger at a jewelry store once, and the clerk told me to stop panicking because that makes it harder to take off. Strange but true. I calmed down and managed to get the ring off. Oh, and also try a low sodium diet day, and drink plenty of water. That might ease the swelling.

I was going to suggest drinking plenty of water and then trying to take them off. I'm not wearing my engagement ring these days, but my wedding band is thin and still fits most of the time. On days when I don't get enough water, I can definitely tell because it's very tight on my finger. I make sure to hydrate really well the next day, and it's back to normal.

If your finger is getting sore (and you tried all the methods for getting them off), I would get them cut off personally.

My rings almost got to that point and I had to take them off and go ringless for awhile. I finally bought a cheap wedding band at Wal Mart so I would at least have SOMETHING on my finger.
