My landlady and her dh came by today.The landlady has made comments about our parenting and housekeeping skills and generally we try to deal with her DH instead of her.
I was talking to her DH and she came up and said "OMG, another baby on the way! OMG!". Then asked what happened to my hair. (I had long hair and recently cut it all off. It's maybe 1/3 of an inch long, if that, now). Her DH said it looked good, and she said "I looked at you and was surprised, I didn't remember you looking so..." and then proceed to puff out her cheeks and make motions with her hands to show that my cheeks, breast, belly were big and round.
Nice and tactful lady. Thanks! Made my day, really.

I would have used my words with her-no doubt. Land ladybor not-there is no need for saying such hurtful things to a pregnant woman.
I think I would have told her she was being hurtful and rude and I was done speaking to her.(Shaking my head) I just can't believe the NERVE of some people. Talk about socially inept!

Hi all-
Thanks for the sympathy!

This is certainly not the first time she has said something nasty. She is in her 70s I think and apparently never learned to mind her manners. Last year she was talking about us and "our ways" to the neighbors and to some woman that was here helping to cut down a tree, and didn't realize I was standing right there. DH told her she was no longer allowed in our house if it was to judge and make comments to other people. Obviously she's free to think what she wants but needs to learn to keep her mouth shut.

I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but is there any way that she might have meant it not-badly? You mentioned she was old, is she also possibly from a culture that embraces the fullness of pregnancy? I remember eating with a pregnant friend in a Korean restaurant and her getting practically hassled by the owner, who was just entranced by her belly...

On the other hand, maybe your landlady's just crazy-rude!
