(this really was intended to be a light-hearted thread, about what we do as adults, even though we know better. I just wanted to see what YOU all just can't resist doing, even though you shouldn't do it. or vice versa)

It seems that every other thing I hear about kids is that they do something "even though they know not to." So the parents get mad, because obviously, if you know better, then if you are doing it anyways you are being outrightly defiant.

But...I do a lot of things, even though I know better. It doesn't mean I'm being defiant to anyone, it means I'm human.
It means the temptation to read "one more post" really is a bigger pull on me than cleaning the house (which desperately needs done).
It means that when I yell at ds or dp (even though I KNOW that's a sucky thing to do), that I screwed up, and need to work on controlling myself better in the future. It doesn't mean that I have weighed the options, and then consciously and calmly decided "hmmm...I know this is wrong, but I'm going to do it anyways." (thankfully, there is rarely yelling in our house)

Cough...Cough... I have this really bad habit of racing people off the line at a stoplight. I hate to see a car creeping up, revving its engine, etc. I coach myself, "I will not race, I will not race, I have kids now, I am an adult," etc, but I still do it sometimes.
Among a great many other things...

Great thread! It's so true that we hold our little children to a much higher expectation that we hold ourselves.
For me, I KNOW I shouldn't have dessert.....but my sweet dh just walked in the door from the Fresh Market (a nice high end specialty grocery) with three of my favorite desserts. I SHOULD get off the computer, and go get dd in her pj's. I SHOULD NOT be eating dessert. But, oh well.....

sometimes I think...man I shouldn't let DS do that, but I'm lazy and not up for the battle. Today it was systematically taking every last item out of my walk in pantry and spraying the floor with febreeze : Then I didn't wipe up the floor and DH fell into the metal rack in there and a giant bag of red beans fell all over the floor.

I want to think I'm just the most glorious mom that ever existed (which I am LOL), but sometimes I admit, it is sheer and utter laziness.

I remember when he was like 12 months or so, I wanted to catch up with a friend on the phone so I plopped him on the counter in front of me and gave him a sleeve of crackers. I was cleaning them up for days

hmmm.... I know there are a million or more things I do that I know I shouldn't, these are the only ones I can think of right now

1. I eat way to much junk food
2. Drive way to fast sometimes
3. Spend money I really shouldn't
4. Go to MDC when I should be cleaning (like right now)

Thats 4 down and a little under a million to go

I can SO understand the sentiment of not feeling up to the battle. It's like, "do I want to stop her from making a mess, even though it's not going to hurt anyone, or do I want to finish the dishes/ finish my email/ finish reading this post?"
I would say I shouldn't let my 12 month old watch so many videos. I console myself with the fact that she only watches "Signing Time" or Muzzy. There are no product placements or ads and by the age of 12 months she is already using over 40 signs and understands at least 60 (but can't yet form them with her tiny hands). And she's learning French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
But still.... She is watching videos at least once a day:....

Seriously! Tonight I let me 13 month old DD sit on the kitchen floor with a box of small crackers and feed the dog so that I could finish dinner. I new those crackers would inevitably end up up side down and all over the floor. I was cleaning up crackers for a good 25 minutes and they are still every were!!

I have been known to eat brownies at breakfast time and nutella on a spoon, straight from the jar. :

I mutter things at the drivers in front of me. (When ds was 2, he was driving a neighbor's push car, and saying something. I said "What?" and he replied "Oh, I'm just muttering at the drivers in front of me.!" )

I get mad when I lose things.

I wait until I have no clean socks before I do laundry.

I don't dust because I hate it.

I stay up late playing computer games when I would be better served going to bed and SLEEPING! (Gee, I wonder why dd fights sleep so much?)
