I need to lose the most weight that I can in 8 days (yeah yeah I know DON'T WE ALL ) but seriously, I have an out-of-state wedding to go to and the ONLY dress that I have is too small! I should have planned ahead but this weekend has sneaked up on me! So, how much weight can I lose in one week? And the all important question: How do I do it?

Ok, I understand about wanting to lose and all, but, it is really not healthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds in a week. I would say to increase your activity, and really watch your portion control. Make sure you drink enough water, and eat plenty of veggies and fruits. Don't forget your protein, and watch out for saturated fats.

Crash dieting is not great for you, but if you lay off salt and eat fruits, veggies, and protein, you can probably lose a few pounds in a few days. Or you can do Atkins induction - protein and non-starchy veggies only. If you want to see quick changes in your body, do Pilates and as much cardio as you can fit in. Drink a ton of water.

(I do not endorse this plan for long-term! But for once in a great while, I don't think it's deadly.)

I'd Eat to Live this week (no time to read the book, just skip to the chapter about the six week diet towards the end, it tells you what is ok and what is not in a neat little chart). It is basically a very strict vegan diet. Also, if you drink TONS of water, work out for as much as you can each day (get up early, go to bed late, take the kids on a walk, park farther away from stores, take the stairs, etc.) that will probably get the weight off. When I had to lose as much as I could in little time (ah high school, where everything was an "emergency crash diet" situation! ) I used to work out for 3 hours a day. Half an hour was weights (10 pounds as I didn't want big muscles), half an hour was crunches, and two hours of cardio. I'd just move as much as possible. No wasted calories either, meaning nothing but water to drink.

Now, none of the above is healthy and it definitely is NOT something that you should do. But, you are an adult and going to do what you want, so as long as you keep in mind that it is NOT healthy and I am NOT advising you to do this (just giving you my experience to take or leave as you will ) you can do whatever you want

Good luck.

ETA: Eat to Live is actually very healthy. I was referring to the crazy amounts of exercise not being healthy.
