Ok, what gives here? In the past week several people have expressed flat out shock when they discover I'm pregnant and are typically even more shocked when I tell them that I'm 6 months. Which is usually followed by the ever loved comment "You don't look pregnant!" :

Do NOT tell the pregnant woman (who is tired and stressed) that she does not "look" pregnant. Because first of all, yes I do. I can't help it if you're stupid and/or blind. And second, why would you say that? The only thing you did is make me worry until about 5 other people told me I did look pregnant and to not worry. Included in those was my mom who said she got those comments at 8 months. She's a lot taller than me though, so that could make sense (she's 5'8", I'm only 5'2").

What is wrong with people??

I keep shocking people by telling them I am pregnant. Gotta love winter jackets....I think I could hide a full size baby in here

People keep telling my I have lost weight too. When I am pregnant my face gets thinner for some reason. I just laugh and tell them I have gained 9 lb.

Plus this is NC - big heavy jackets aren't common. Besides, I've gained about 20 pounds and it is entirely in my belly. I mean, what do they think I just got really fat all of a sudden??

Maybe the people who make those comments think they are saying something flattering

I said to my best friend's sister "oh, you are starting to show, look at your belly." I meant it in the best way, like, oh you are healthy and pregnant. However, she was completely offended and cried.

FYI- I get those comments all the time. I just tell them I have a deep pelvis

You know, I feel really bad, but I had sold something on craigslist to this really nice lady. When we met up at our local coffee house, I honestly thought 'Oh, how cute! She sure is getting ready early'. I thought this because her tummy looked like no more than a bloated little bump. I would have pegged her at no more than 10 weeks. In the mean while, I was 4 months and looked 6.......
Anyways, so I asked her if this was her first, "yes" she said. I asked if she was having morning sickness, "No, I haven't had that in months!!!!". Months???? I wondered....
I asked her how far along she was and she smiled and said "8 1/2 months".......
My reaction was of obvious shock, and before I could think what to say, "Oh my GOD! Really? But your so tiny!" came rolling out of my mouth!
I immediately felt horrible about it, but it was a reaction.
I think people are just used to seeing pregnancy in one form. Cute, petite woman with round bellies lunging in front of them!
I'm sorry that people have been insensitive to you. But I understand both sides.
I constantly think that people are looking at me because they think I'm fat, not pregnant. Or the people that you can tell want to ask about the pregnancy, but don't want to be embarrassed if they are wrong!
I'm not huge at all! But like I said, people are just used to seeing it one way.
I feel for you!!!!

I wore a two piece bathing suit to DD swim lesson this morning and another mom said, " I really hope Im not wrong but are your pregnant"? I thought she was insane. I look like I am going to tip over. Some people are just not very observant.

There must be something wrong with me b/c I've received opposite comments like "Yep Maya, you've really put on some weight. You're popping out already" from both my male and female coworkers. Thanks guys, that really made me feel good.

Then I had a furniture delivery man come up to me and full out put his hand on my stomach, without any preamble. I was so shocked I didn't say anything even though it really bothered me afterwards.

Yesterday, I went maternity clothing shopping and a total stranger comes up to me while I'm trying on clothing, asking me to put something on b/c she found out how p/g I am from my mother who's standing outside of my changeroom. I figure, "why not" and slip on the vest she hands me; she rewards me by grimacing and saying, "well, you're MUCH bigger than my daughter and you're only 4 and a half months. Are you sure you're only having 1 baby?". :

I mean, geez, do I look THAT huge or what?!

I have been getting "Oh look at that baby bump!" at work. I find it annoying, while others may love it. Basically I think people should just keep their comments to themselves! Pregnant women are unpredictable!

Yesterday, my dp and I thought of a funny t-shirt....
"f**k off, I'm pregnant."

Ok, so I would probably never sport a shirt like that, but sometimes, it sure is how I feel! Especially working in retail and interacting with hundreds of people a day! Thank God it's only one day a week now.

This thread made me think of a shirt my mom had when she was pregnant with my sister 20 years ago.
It had a smiley face and a caption that said "Its baby fat" It was cute.

I have seen shirts that say
"Yes, I'm prenant"
"We aren't finding out"
I like these shirts.

OMG, I would have told her kindly to shut-up. That is borderline obnoxious, why would someone make that comment?

I feel lucky to be small because no one even notices I am pregnant.

Yeah the other one that I love (not!) is when people who KNOW you're pregnant greet you by saying "Wow you look so BIG!" Gee... thanks.

I think ALL of us pregnant ladies learned long ago (or are learning now if it's the first time) that the correct greeting for ANY pregnant woman is "Wow you look great! How are you doing?"

Although I had to laugh... I saw friends at a party yesterday that I hadn't seen in a while and they didn't know I was 5 months pregnant (I told them). THen I remembered that last time when I was probably 7-8 months pregnant (and rather huge) I overheard one of the guys in the lab next door to mine talking about me to another person. "Oh... you should ask Karen about that. She works next door. (I *think* she's pregnant.)" I laughed so hard! I mean, it's one thing to not ask if someone's pregnant (because it's really tacky if they're not!) but it's another to not ask when she's 5 weeks from dropping the kid
