We visited with the in-laws this weekend. My 20-y.o. SIL was astounded that neither of my children have/had a pacifier. She then went on to talk about how she loved hers so much, she used it until she was six!

I thought about it afterwards, and if pacifier use is all right until age six (at which point she 'weaned' herself of it), then 'na-na' at almost five is nothing in comparison!

I don't think she would like the effect her comment has had on me, but, well, if CLW is good enough for a pacifier, it's definitely good enough for 'fresh from the tap.' :LOL

OT - but I used a pacifier until I was seven.

I had many shameful sleepovers where I carefully kept it hidden under my pillow until my playmate was asleep. Such a relief to have it!

I've often wondered what would have happened had my mom nursed us.

It just wasn't "done" back then, mom says.

I just love when family members who look down on my parenting practices end up strengthening my resolve or proving my point while trying to convince me their view is correct! :LOL

Last December we went to a dance and my then 3 1/2 year old son asked for "baba". A young woman who had been enthralled with my son said "oh is he asking for his bottle?". Even though she did not say so you could hear "how cute". And when I told her that he has not been bottle fed but he was asking for the real thing you could see the disbelief and slight repulsion move into her expression.

Go figure. A bottle or pacifier is cute but breastfeeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
