I feel guilty about my dog

*sigh*

Since I'm getting closer to baby day I'm starting to really be annoyed with my dog. Just the fact that I have an animal in the house is bugging me. I love my dog, she's great. She's a part of our family! (although she does do some stupid things sometimes! but that typical). Her hair really bugs me the most. Cleaning up dog hair, or just seeing it and knowing that a newborn will be in the house soon grosses me out. She has her own bed in the hallway but I started letting her come in our room and sleep next to our bed and she would come in dd's room and lay when I would put her to sleep. I totally put an end to that and I feel guilty. Now when she tries to come in, I make her leave and I know she doesn't really understand why so it sucks. I never had an animal when dd was born. We got her when dd was 7 months. She was great w/ dd right from the beginning so I'm not worried about how she'll react to the newborn. *sigh* I just feel that we've grown apart in the last few wks. I'm finding it hard to even show her the slightest amount of affection.

Anyone else going through this?? Could I be the only one who feels this way?

You're not the only one. I have a german shepherd and a shepherd mix. It drives me CRAZY because they are huge shedders. I can take my Dyson to the living, kitchen, and bathroom, and just a couple hours later we have dog fur tumbleweeds rolling around! I absolutely HATE it! I have told dh I'm done with pets, period (we also have 2 cats) but he does K-9 search and rescue with the german shepherd and has informed me we will always at least have a dog. I'm not too thrilled with that.
As a dog lover as well, all I can say is your children will be less likely to have allergies with a doggie in the house (shedding fur and all)
Think of the positives. You dog will always be there for you...they are probably going through an emotional time as well. Sometimes they just need 2 minutes of attention/love and that let's them know it's ok. Good luck!

Wow, lots of German Shepherds in here. Mine is 7 years old. Tumbleweeds of fur everywhere...Love her to death, but we just had the nursery rugs cleaned the other day and about 5 hours later she yacks in the nursery.....
We just yanked all our carpet out and switched to hardwoods. I was SO totally icked out by bringing home preemie twins to dog-infested carpet. It didn't look dirty, but I knew deep down everything on his paws from outside was lurking in the fibers. *shudder*

We kicked the dog out of our room / bed when our first daughter was born. We bought a big crate for him and a bed to go inside. It's honestly his favorite spot in the house now. I find him in there all the time, door wide open, just resting or gnawing on a tennis ball.

If you've ever watched The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, it will ease your guilt some.
Dogs are most balanced and happy when they are treated like dogs and not humans. I doubt he cares one bit where he sleeps, as long as it's safe and warm!
