I know you are supposed to wait to start solids but I figured I would just try a little bite today. I was eating cantelope and I put a piece in the baby safe feeder for my 5 1/2 month old to eat. Needless to say she loved it. But 2 hours later she threw up. Do you think it was from the cantelope? I feel really guilty if she got sick because I was curious to see her reaction. I thought if it was going to bother her it would have done so in like the first 20 minutes. But maybe not.

awww! i am sure she would have spit up no matter what. Doesn't she spit up *at least* once a day anyway?

Hah, I let Joshua snag some avacado this morning. He's four months old. He grabbed it and I am just so tired of ripping food out of his tiny hands and making him hysterical. He didn't puke *yet* but OMFG his poop stinks so bad!

Anyway, IMHO - don't feel bad. She loved it and wanted it. A little puke is par for the course in baby land.

I did the same exact thing when DS was that age!
I fully intended to wait until 6 months, but he kept trying to grab my cantelope from me, so I stuck some in a feeder and gave it to him. I think he was like 6 days from turning 6 months and I felt guilty. But he didn't like it anyways.

I read your post and I was like "oooh spooky"
Here's his cantelope adventure:

It's possible that the cantelope upset her tummy, but I wouldn't dwell on it. My DS spit up breastmilk after every feeding until he was 8 months old. It's just what babies do smetimes no matter what food you give them. Anyways, there's nothing out there that says a child must be exactly 6 months before tasting a bit of mom's food. But if you do start solids and she has tummy issues, it would be best to wait a couple more months at least.

After that shes not even getting a taste of anything for at least a month! It was definately throw up, not spit up. I am an expert in the spit up category by now, after all I am usually covered in it by 9:00 a.m.

yeah, probably not ready yet. don't beat yourself up

My ds still does this with some new foods he picks up and eats himself but his stomach obviously isn't ready for.
