I have 4 mo. twins and am a new mom. I keep their monitor in their crib. We just moved to the Florida panhandle and have wicked storms very often. I've heard of kids dying in our area from electricution and it got me to wondering if keeping the monitor in their crib is safe or not?
It sounds silly but i really don't know?

hmmm... i really do not know. we cosleep.

i would think that the monitor will work just fine next to the crib if you are worried! I would be more concerned about the cord in the crib( if the monitor has a cord)

Well, I don't thinki'd be comfortablewith it. Partly the electrical stuff, a lot because soon they will be getting more mobile and if there are cords with the moniter that's a huge hazard(maybe you use batteries, I dunno, I always use the cord cause those htings eat batteries like crazy!). Probably best to just pu tit on a dresser or beekcase or somehting near the babies. I put mine about 1/2 way across the room from my son (he's older, 2 1/2 years) and I can still hear just ifne, even changes in his breathing pattern or him rustling around in his sleep or whatever.

I doubt there's a concern, but I'm not sure, but
from Panama City!

Maybe you could put it under the crib. It should still receive well enough to hear them.

I don't think I'd use a monitor at all. We had some fire safety folks come out to our house after DS was born and they said they'd read of a house that had burned down b/c of a fire started from the monitor. There's no way I'd put something electronic in DS's bed after that discussion with them.

Can you move the crib into your room? It'd be TONS easier to take care of them in the middle of the night too.

i wouldnt put it in their bed, mainly b/c its electronic and even if you have batteries in it, i wouldnt do it.
congrats on your twins though!
there is a lot of information here (in another forum, "the family bed" i think it is called) about co-sleeping. many families on here cosleep (we do but we have my son's crib side-carred to our bed, which basically means the front of his crib is off and its up next to our bed). its so much easier for me to take care of him at night like this instead of having to get up and go to his room (which, yes, he does have...he's just never in it! lol!). it also makes him feel much more secure.

actually we do keep both girls in our room and in one crib. i can't imagine having to walk to the other end of the house. i haven't even started decorating their room because i don't foresee us moving them into there anytime soon
i like the idea of all of us sleeping close by. my dh is the one that sleeps in the spare room when he has to get up for work at 4 am bc they wake him up everytime they drop their pacifier.

i think i'm going to take the monitor out of the crib, my only problem is that my monitor stinks and i can't hear anything as it is. its an evenflo whisper brand. does anyone have a great one they would recommend that won't cost us a fortune?

gotta run, someone just woke up
