Ok, so I finally tried one to be in with the new wave of pocket diaper loving mamas...

I must admit, I don't get it.

For one, I need to change it every time she pees because the fleece is wet, so unlike just changing the diaper soaker, I have to change the "cover" as well...more costly.

Then I let it air dry and it STINKS so I have to WASH it every time (unlike with many of the covers I have that i can use multiple times before washing)

AND I have to touch dirty diapers with my hands much more with these things to get the pockets empty.

AND the part in front leaks pee straight through unless I can manage to get enough diaper stuffed in every nook and cranny, which I can't seem to manage...

so I am lost. Why does everyone seem to love these? They seem like an expensive pain in the butt!

I will stick with fitteds and wraps .... Heck I'd rather use a Prefold and a wrap then these crazy things!
LOL

edited to add: But I can't argue that they are very cute

Lala...I gotta tell ya...I did the exact same thing when I first tried out pocket dipes. I was like, all that fuss over this?! It's just a glorified cover and I can't even reuse it!! That was when Ian was 5 months old, though. I sold off all of them and shelved the idea. I just recently went back to pocket dipes (as in 3 months ago) and had a newfound love for them. For us now, they work wonderfully, and I like the ease of getting them on and off. Ian has decent bladder control these days so he can literally be in the same one for 3 hours without even wetting one piddle. That is really nice! Dh loves them b/c they are so easy to put on...just velcro and go (I prestuff for him ). They aren't for everyone, though. I feel your pain about wicking and wetting straight thru and all that stuff that'll give you a headache...btdt too!

I don't like them either, don't like removing the stuffing

I like them when we go out. We go camping a lot and I usually bring FB's. They are the only diaper that does not leak at night for us, and my DH loves them. During the day we use 1 JB insert and the diaper is pretty trim and at night we use 2 JB's. I still have prefolds and Liz's and a few Angel wraps but I find it easier to use FB's when you don't have time to fuss over diapers. I just toss the dirty ones in my wet bag and unstuff them when I get home (with gloves on, the unstuffing part is gross!).

That said, I could not imagine using pocket diapes all the time. They are just my on-the-go diaper

I love my pocket diapers (FB)

If I am using a prefold I fan it out to make sure it fits across the crotch area to prevent leaks.

I llike that it is trim and keeps baby feeling drier than a fitted.

What baffles me utterly is why unstuffing one is grosser than dealing w/a completely soaked fitted? What's up w/that??? So many of us have made this remark, it must be an innate aversion!

I tried to feel the love with 4 different ones, but never could manage it either!

I love my pocket diapers (but mine are all cotton, not fleece/pul) because I love quick drying diapers that are trim yet don't allow the stream of pee to come out of the diaper. I dont' mind the unstuffing, but I don't allow diapers to get saturated either, nor does my baby have the squirts up the back anymore. Also several of my pockets are terry outters so I can snappi, them, and since terry is heavier, If I made it into a fitted with 3 layer hemp fleece soaker along with the flannel chamois or 14 oz sherpa, then my diapers would take FOREVER to dry and I won't feel they get clean enough. As it is, all my pockets and inserts dry way faster than my prefolds...these are more like pocket fitteds, not aio's iykwim. To each their own, some like aio's, some like fitteds some don't get either and stick with prefolds good thing we all have options huh?

I love mine too-- Fuzzibunz and a few Happy heineys--One great thing is that they are easy for someone else to do--(DH-grandma-etc) I just pre stuff & they are ready to go! And I like the way poop rolls off fleece--Uhhhh...that sounds weird if taken out of context!!
But also NAte is @ 12m so not wetting as often so they last.....I find they stay on well---wash & dry well too....(though I love wool covers too)

I tried one for nighttime and I think if ds hadn't been allergic to fleece I would have used it - but just at night. It seemed like a good nighttime solution for those whose kids tolerate fleece.

For daytime I love my prefolds and snappi system because it is so simple and quick.

You really do not like them do you? LOL!

We like them for our older son who is potty learning in the night now and the aplix ones are so easy for him to take off and put back on!! Also in the morning he takes the inserts out himself and puts them in the pail and puts the cover in the laundry so I think they are great!! I prefer covers and fitted's for my other son however.

Hmmm... My stuffers are never wet at the end during the day??? My baby is only 5 months, so maybe that's it? At night, when the stuffer is soaking wet, I just shake it until the stuffer falls into the diaper pail. Last night I used one SMJAE insert, and one BK prefold (red stitches) and it wasn't soaked.

Laura, it sounds like there is a problem with yours. I refuse to stuff every nook and cranny of a pocket diaper. I never have and never will. All of mine work just fine. The only time I have had pee come out was when the fleece was repelling or when the snaps popped open. The only time I've had a leak was when I used too little stuffing to get through the night and it was so incredibly saturated that the pee had nowhere else to go.
Yes, it is an expesive system for full time.
Usually my inserts are not soaked all the way to the back with day use, but Caden wets an awful lot at night (still nurses all night), so I do have to pinch the insert and pull it out. I always wash my hands after changing a diaper, though, so it's really not so bad.

Me too! It just falls right off so you don't have stinky poops in your diaper pail.

I love the pocket dipes because stuffing with a JoeyBunz makes it so trim! From all the different dipes I've tried this past year, you just can't get that trimness with anything else. They've also always worked so well for my ds.

I agree - I like 'em b/c they're trim and relatively absorbent with the joey bunz inserts. Easy to put on compared to a fitted and cover or prefold and cover.

That being said I love wool so I use fitteds+wool alot but when I need a trim dipe when ds is wearing smaller fitting clothes, I grab for the fuzzi bunz.

I also like them for the diaper bag. They are trim and fast to get on. I guess an AIO would be the same, but the only AIO I tried took a year and a half to dry.

Mine usually don't get so soaked that the stuffer is wet all the way to the end, so I'm not touching wet to unstuff.

I also like them for overnight. Stuffed to the hilt with hemp they hold and hold and hold and DS' butt is dry in the AM.
