My 6 year old is getting really bummed out that DH and I haven't picked a name for the baby yet <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> And we're trying <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: , but not getting anywhere. Everytime I see a name thread here, you mamas give such good suggestions, I thought I'd see what you could come up with for baby #3...<br><br>
The constraints <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"><br>
- we won't know gender 'til birth, so I need girl and boy names<br>
- our last name is a single syllable and starts with a hard "E"<br>
- name should be 2 or 3 syllables<br>
- our son's name is Wyatt Hastings and daughter's name is Audrey Eleanor and we'd like the new baby's name to "match"<br>
- we like strong names with generally European/English ancestory<br>
- we don't want the name to be able to be shortened (so, no nicknames)<br><br>

I came up with our name from looking at the top 1000 baby names of 2005. I wrote down the ones that I liked. Then, I kept going back to those names every few days to eliminated. The one that kept popping out was Maya. So, we're going to name her Maya Sage. My other two daughters are Nadia and Sophie.<br><br>
If I were having a boy, he would be Griffin Michael.

You ladies are so helpful! Your new name suggestions prompted DH and I to have a name chat this morning. Of course, now I know why it is we don't have names - it's because DH is a (<span style="font-size:xx-small;">loveable, wonderful</span>) pain in the <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/moon.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="moon"> He's got a reason why (almost) every name won't work. He's pretty stuck on Archer for a boy, and we <i>might</i> have chosen Maia for a girl. I suspect we'll have a nameless baby for a couple of weeks after s/he is born <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I like Jonah for a boy and Kathryn for a girl, although you could also go with Caroline if you want the old-fashioned, English thing. Jonah pretty much never gets nicknamed. Caroline runs a slight risk of Carrie, but I think that's slight. Kathryn, of course, has Kathy, Kate.

Hmmm...I dunno, I think you and I ought to do some investigating because I think we might be married to the same guy. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> My dh has all the same name constraints, except he really likes Irish names.<br><br>
His step-dad passed away last month, and his name was William, so that led us to choose Liam if it's a boy. I think we're also going with Maia for a girl (really, I'm worried about this dh thing.)<br><br>
Here is our list of names (mostly my choices) before we settled:<br>
Girls: Maia, Lauren, Eleni, Corrine, Simone, Leigh, Siobhan, Veronica<br>
