And had no trouble at all!

Aside from waiting for an hour and half. They filled them out for me and told me, "Now, if you sign this, then you can never, ever, ever let your kids get an immunization again. Do you understand that?"

It was all I could do not to say, "WOO HOO!"

Glad it went well.

As funny as that is . . . I would seriously consider making a formal complaint. I'm just shocked at the lengths the local Florida Department of Health offices will go in order to discourage parents from obtaining exemptions.

I think you should send an email to K.N.O.W. and share your experience so they are aware of the latest "tactic" and they can put it on their website to warn other parents.

Can you imagine how many parents they scare away with that line?

Thanks for the update!

I need to draw up a letter!

If you send a letter to the Dept. of Health, here is a contact list. The counties are listed on the right: http://www.immunizeflorida.org/root/contact.htm

Oh - and I would also complain about the unreasonable wait time.

Oh, one more thing - you should cc your local legislators as well and ask them to look into it. Ya never know. If you need any help locating their email addresses, let me know.

I did have four kids to get them filled out for. Also, none of them had ever been seen there, so they asked for the info to be filled out. Is an hour and half still unreasonable, you think?

It took them 1.5 hours from the time you made your request until the time they (or you) filled out the exemption forms and had them signed by the appropriate person?

LI - I haven't thought about this at all... I guess I just assumed I would fill out forms when it's time for ds to go to school. Do all states have to "get exemptions," like onlyboys had to in Florida? I'm in Ohio... Ugh. I want to look more into homeschooling! If only dh didn't think it strange... (We've got three more years before he's five, so I've got time! But maybe preschool?? I don't know...)

You will need to submit a letter for preschool. As far as I can see (and from other OH mama's), there is no pre-printed exemption form in Ohio.

ORC Ann. 3313.671(3)
A pupil who presents a written statement of the pupil's parent or guardian in which the parent or guardian objects to the immunization for good cause, including religious convictions, is not required to be immunized.
