I HAD to be circumcised when I was an infant in 1974 due to a chronic case of parental ignorance and medical overzealousness (PIMO). Many of my friends also suffered from this severe (and often debilitating) condition and NEEDED to be circed. Just wanted to share my story.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. I was born many years before you and I was circumcised because of PIMO but by the time you were born, The AAP had come out with their position statement on circumcision and at the time, it would have been quite newsworthy at least in the medical profession. You were circumcised simply because a payment on the Cadillac or Lincoln was coming due.

Seeing as PIMO is still rampant in my area, I don't doubt that the OP suffered from it in addition to DBPDS (Doctor's Boat Payment Due Syndrome).

d'oh...talk about ignorance!

sorry y'all!
I totally missed the OPs sarcasm and thought that the OP not only had ignorant parents and an overzealous doctor, but also a medical condition (PIMO) treatable by circumcision.

that'll teach me...

I have no doubt the PI part is still true. Now it should be PIMG or Parental Ignorance, Medical Greed. For the horrendous prices we pay them, there is no need for greed and for that same amount of money medical ignorance should not exist especially in an issue as simple as this.

I can't fathom that there is a doctor practicing today that has not heard of the debate over this issue and if they have not done research on it, they are simply lazy or so arrogant that they think they know everything much better than their own experts. Neither is acceptable. Would you let a plumber work on the gas lines in your house who showed such ignorance of basic plumbing? How about a mechanic if you needed brake repairs? Would you want to be on the same road with a truck driver with similar ignorance? In an airliner with a pilot with a similar deficit in his training? We won't accept that level of incompetence in those lower paid professions, why will we accept it from a profession that holds our life in their hands and is extremely generously paid for that expertise that they don't possess?

What about PIPD (Parental ignorance, Physician deception)? That's definately why my dh got circ'd. His mama's OB told her that all boys NEEDED to be circ'd or horrible things would happen to his penis. Besides no one has a foreskin anymore...its simply not hygenic!

I think iatrogenic PIPD is still the main reason boys today are cut. I actually witnessed a doc spewing his lies about circ to a mom in her first day following her son's birth a few weeks ago. He hit her up for her consent to the bloody procedure in the prime time: the first hazy 24 hours after birth. Needless to say I had a lot of that doc's garbage to sweep up, and did so, managing to save an innocent's foreskin.

I think we should start a campaign to stop this wretched illness.

Glad we have educated ourselves and are willing to stand up for our babies- but for some reason we just keep having girls :LOL

My hubby was born in 1979. He was left as nature intended despite having a father being circd.

MIL just didn't see the justification.

She said no. n FIL said "Good, because I was made fun of alot because I was" *Quebec is a Non-Circing province for the most part, was back then is still now*

Canada has a very low circ rate. When I was pregnant with DD1 my friend was due within a week of me and she lives in CA and when I asked her if she was going to circ if she had a boy she was like "NO! we don't to that here" It was really abnormal for people there to be circed. She lives in Calgary (sp)

some PARTS of Canada have a very low circ rate.

Ontario still has the highest.

I live in Ontario. And even when Circ was covered by the provincial medical system, Quebec had one of THE Lowest rates in the whole country. Still does acctually. The only province lower is NFLD.

It all comes down to money.

People find better things to do with $100-$300 after a baby is born than to mutilate their child.
