My mom just gave me the gorgeous silk Zolo she bought for me. I've been trying it on (sans baby, I am due in 2 weeks), but I'm just not crazy about it. The tail hanging down kind of irritates me, it feels bulky and awkward, and it just doesn't feel secure on my shoulder. It feels like the fabric is always bunched up as far as it will go in the ring, and that I will constantly be adjusting the baby to keep their head off the rings.

I have a stretch hotsling, that I also haven't used yet. I sent in my measurements, and was told to get a small, but it feels way too small. I can't imagine how I would ever nurse a baby in there. Plus, I can't move the arm that the sling is over.

I have a KKAFP that I used when ds was a toddler. I haven't used it with a baby yet, but again, I hate the feeling of not being able to move my left arm.

I really want to have a sling that works for us, because I will have a busy 3yo to chase after, but I can't stand the 'tied up' feeling I get from all these.

And I have another issue: How do you switch sides when nursing in a sling? Do you put the baby in the other direction? Do you take the sling off and put it on the other shoulder? Ds always had to nurse on both sides, and it seems like more of a pain to keep switching the baby and sling around than it is to just sit down and have them nurse in my arms.

Am I just pregnant and uncomfortable, and things will be different when the baby is here? Or am I just not meant to sling? At this point it seems like the Bjorn (which I loved with ds) would just be much easier and more comfortable.

Well, I think p/g has a lot to do with it. I'm sure it's hard to get a good idea, especially with the pouches, as to how they will fit. Once the baby is inside of it, instead of making it hard to try on, it will probably seem easier. Also, not everyone can nurse in a pouch (for me, I was just too big).

I'm not sure how you feel about them, but have you considered a frontpack for the first few months? I never really felt hands-free with a sling until DS was able to go kangaroo carry.

Oceanbaby - hugs to you! I think part of it is probably that you're pregnant and uncomfortable
I think there's no way to tell with a pouch while still pg so I would just have faith that it will work and fit just fine
I have a Zolowear silk as well and, while I love it, it's not my first choice when putting on a ring sling. My Zolowear cotton is! I find the silk a little harder to adjust and wear but I'm very excited to own it as it's so beautiful, causes quite a stir while out and about and will be perfect for the weddings I have to attend! The silk Zolo is like my high heels - great to put on and go out but not an everyday thing. The cotton Zolo is like my jeans (well, if my jeans were Seven's or whatever the hot brand is - lol!), comfy, easy to use and something I reach for everyday.

Oh, forgot to add - about nursing in the sling, I have only ever been able to do one side and then I would have to switch to do the other side (but I never did that, I just had a sling side and a non-sling side!). In my Kozy, I can nurse on either side easily and without changing anything. HTH

I really think that once the babe is here things will be better. I have a silk Zolo and I love it
I wasn't sure at first- I thought that the tail would annoy me too, but I don't even notice it now. I find the shoulder to be very comfortable.

Mama

I got my KKAfP before Ds was born and it was soooo tight :LOL once he was born he fit perfectly

I know I couldn't do a Zolo sling... I cannot stand open-tail slings. Just personal preference. I am big pg too, and the pouch doesn't work for me right now, either. But I know once the baby is born and the belly is gone it will feel better. I was never really able to nurse in the sling -- I always preferred to sit down with #1. However, I'm counting on being able to carry the new baby around while I chase after my toddler.

What about an Ergo or a Kozy carrier? Those don't seem to restrict arm movement. Keep in mind that if you were carrying the baby in your arms, that would definitely restrict your arm movement. And seeing as you can only wear the Bjorn for a finite amount of time, that also puts a damper on things.

I think you are just feeling very uncomfortable. Don't heave those slings though. I made a very sad error when I was huge and pregnant. i decided to sell off all my wool diaper covers because the wool made me want to heave. Not sure, who will get this, but I sold off my Elbee covers. I am so sorry. Anyway, sorry to go a little off topic, but I think that once you are not pregnant, you won't feel the way you do. I absolutely love my Zolo and I am neither a ring sling lover, nor an open tail lover.

With the tail of the sling, you can tuck it in the sling to get it out of your way.
With the shoulder part of the pouches, try bunching up the shoulder part and letting it rest ontop of your shoulder. That is how I usually wear mine.
And as the other posters have said, alot has to do with you being pregnant now. Pouches that would normally fit you, will not fit you now.

Just a little bit more to go until you can put your baby in the pouches
! I have until December to see my baby, lol. Lucky you, lol

I agree that once baby is on the outside and you get your insides back, you will feel more comfortable. On the pouch restricting arm movement, try folding half of it under on your shoulder before putting the baby (or the teddy bear, lol) in it. Alternatively, you can put all of it on top of your shoulder, the pull just the top layer over the ball of your shoulder to cap it. This is the way I find to be most comfortable and least restrictive. Hth!
