I've reached the point in this pregnancy where I completely dread eating
Every time I eat the slightest bit I get massive heartburn. What do I do? Nothing worked for me last pregnancy.. I lived off tums.

Anyone else?

I'm so sorry
. I can totally relate. Yesterday, I barely ate all day because I just could not stand the heartburn anymore. I was feeling nauseous from not eating so by lunch time I had a small sandwich and then nothing else for the rest of the day. It felt awful to be so hungry. It felt just as bad as the heartburn so by 10pm I ended up eating and now I'm paying for it right now. I'm going to eat as usual from now on but yesterday was just a low point for me with the heartburn. I cried and cried about it like a big baby.

I have a hiatal hernia and have been on meds for it for the past 9+ years. I worked so hard with my naturapath to wean of the meds and find a way to manage it naturally...it took about 2 years to get that point and I've been off of them for about a year now. I broke down a few weeks ago and started taking them again but I ran out last week. I had 2 refills left but when I tried to call it in they wouldn't fill it because the prescription was over a year old (since I quit taking them). I have no doctor that will see me in order to write me a new Rx since I'm pregnant and "assigned" to OB but am choosing to see civilian CPMs instead for a homebirth. I'm working on it though and hope to have some Nexium in my hot little hands later today. I just can't live like this anymore.

I've tried everything natural and OTC that is considered safe for pregnant women and nothing works. Hopefully someone else will have some good tips for you otherwise I would see a doc about getting on a PPI.

I hate eating too. Nothing really ever sounds good but sugar and I really need to avoid that.

I don't know why (could have been a coincidence) but my heart burn pretty much went away (and it was really bad) right after I started taking tinctures of dandelion root and wild yam twice a day and drinking 2 cups a day of nettle infusion. No idea what happened but a lot of things improved 24-48 hours after I started that stuff (virtually no heartburn, nausea subsided, have more energy, etc.).

I'm sorry
I've been eating lots of tums every day, pretty much everytime I eat or drink anything, but fortunately they do work well for me.
My ob suggested Zantac 75 (I think that's the name?). I just figured Tums were safer and since they worked, no need to do anything different. But I guess that's an option...

I live on Zantac when I am pregnant. IMO, Tums is a joke for any kind of heartburn/reflux. It never works for me even when I'm not pregnant. My OB said I can take up to two Zantac 150's a day, but I'm only willing to do up to 150 (so, either two 75's throughout the day, or one 150 if it's really bad). I don't need it every day, though. I really try to avoid the foods that give me reflux (anything made with flour, and tomatoes).

I drink a few gulps of pickle juice, it's a wonderful thing..... The only way I can go to sleep at night is pickle juice, kills my heartburn right away.

DH brought this up the other day, and i laughed. I hate pickles. Does it REALLY work? I might try it if you are 100% serious.

I'll bet it's the vinegar in it.

The best thing for my heartburn is apple cider vinegar. 1t in a little cool water. Take as a shot. Chase with a little more cool water. And this would have to have less sodium than pickle juice...

If it's not bad heartburn, papaya enzyme tablets are great.

Also, not drinking with meals is supposed to help and I know that changing positions helps me. Specifically, hands and knees.

Heartburn sucks. Good luck getting some relief!

Did you find any relief yet?

Ugh. I am also really hating the heartburn--more just indigestion for me, not so much pain. I take papaya enzymes and it works sometimes. The thing that gets me is when I wake up at 2:00 am and have heartburn. What the? It just seems like all the time now no matter what I eat. I tried to prop myself up in bed last night (supposed to help), but it just gave me a crick in my neck!

Must . . . get. . . . Zantac . . . . all I have are Tums/Rolaids.

Towards the end of my other pregnancies I slept in my recliner chair but this time I haven't gained enough weight to do that. Keep flipping up whenever I change positions.

No, not really.. I bought some pickles, and DH seams to like them for himself. I really hate pickles, so I only had a bite. Now they are gone though, so I need to get more.

I am waking in the middle of the night, with heartburn, too. I have tums on my bedside.

Ohhhhh I can relate! I have found that a spoonful of either plain yogurt or sour cream after eating helps. I agree, though, my heartburn has been brutal...
