Yes we live in an 'employment at will' state.... it means you can basically be fired for no reason or explaination..<br>
DH was notified today that he should plan on this by the end of the month... DH is an upper level executive and has been with the company almost 8 years...<br>
Its not like there are alot of positions here for what he does...<br><br>
I guess it was a good thing we applied for WIC last month and we were granted assistance based on DH base salary only. (most of DH pay comes from bonus/stock options etc)<br><br>
this is so NOT good news...<br><br>
i just needed to vent... DH is depressed and confused and rightfully so...

Even when you know the job you're doing is a good one, there's ALWAYS concern in the back of your mind that you can be fired whenever.<br><br>
I'm so sorry you guys have to go through this. Was there any reason given for his termination? That really does suck. I hope it alls works out and your DH finds a job quickly.

Is he being terminated for cause or is this a position elimination...huge difference. Does he fall into any protected class at all? If so, use it as a bargining tool. Employment at will isn't worth the paper its printed on provided you are a savy negotiator.

Once DH gets his final date he will be filing for unemployment, i think the max weekly rate is $220, better then nothing... since our finances are set up 'in a trust' we dont actually own anything so i think we will file for foodstamps if needed. im not trying to 'rob the system' here. please dont think that.<br><br>
I have not gotten the full story from DH but his employer has made TWO major purchases over the past 24 months and the company is taking an approach to business he doesnt 100% agree with. Im sure he voiced his opinions numerous times, as any good executive would, and now its come to bite our family in the tooshie.<br><br>
I think this will be an "elimation" and there very likely will be a severance package. i HOPE it includes health insurance.<br><br>

I hate it, too. I also live in MI and people get VERY screwed here b/c of that law. Sorry to hear about your H and your family. You didn't give WIC your dh's full income amount and got assistance based on the lower, incorrect amount, and you don't want us to think you are robbing the system?

we took all our financial info to WIC... DH's pay stubs his bonus pay out his stock information as well as our 2005 tax return... WIC only uses the last 30 days paystubs... we were told by the staff they do not count anything else unless it was paid in the past 30 days... we showed them our taxes, they said that info is not used for WIC.... we only went to WIC because our DR kept suggesting at and since Jacob needs Nurtagemin? formula. we honestly didnt think we would qualify and were shocked when we did.<br><br>
we also provided the brokerage statments but since everything is set up in 'trust' which we did many years ago ( 1997) for tax reasons we dont 'own' the money...<br><br><br>
its noon here, still no word from DH on how today is going.... i hope this is only a rumor but i highly doubt it....

WIC is income based and not resource based. So families can still legally get assistance if they have other assets. Which I think is personally a good thing! I am glad you were able to get help with those high formula costs.
