Hey everyone,

I went to work this morning and started feeling stabbing pains beside my belly button. They would go away, but between them it would feel achey in the general area. I've gotten them throughout the pregnancy, but they'd go away after a minute or so. This time, they came and went for about 2 hours. I started feeling nausea (probably from pain and worry). So I went to emerge and found out I have a hernia! Yesterday I was home with my 36lb 3.5 yr old and he was having a sucky kinda day, so I wa carrying him around a lot. I also have been pulling myself up with my abs when getting out of bed or the tub. BAD BAD BAD!!! I must've thought I was invincible or something. Apparently the hernia is quite smal (but oh painful!) and is caused by one the rectus abdominus muscle on the right side seperating from the soft tissue that connects the two sides.

Well, I feel better knowing for sure that the pregnancy is in no way affected, but I'm frustrated that I have to slow down now. I have this big beautiful garden to tend, and now I'm not sure how that's going to go!!!

Anyhow - I hope you all can learn from my experience and take it easy! Don't use your ab muscles like you did pre-pregnancy! Unfortunately, I seem to like to learn things the hard way...

I'm sorry! Ouch!

My ab muscles are pretty separated, but I don't think there's a hernia (yet) because it doesn't hurt. But I've had an outie since 10 weeks...

I can sympathize!

When I was about 10 weeks pregnant with our third, I started having major pain in my lower inguinal area..then I examined it (it was to the side and just about at the bikini line) and there was a huge bulge..nice. I went and saw my OB who sent me to a surgeon. He figured it was a hernia.

I was diagnosed with a lower left inguinal hernia, and the surgeon and OB both concurred I needed it repaired as it would become larger, more painful, and possibly dangerous...certainly ruled out vaginal birth/pushing.

So, at 15 weeks I had it repaired laparoscopically. The wait from 10 weeks to 15 was very painful, as mine didn't retract...it was just always there and killing me! I have a picture of the outside of my uterus all big and pregnant. It was a fairly easy surgery, though very nerve-wracking! L&D was present for the surgery and the post-op, and I had fetal monitoring and an u/s after to ensure things were as they should be. All was well.

So, all that to say, I can sympathize, and I hope you can find some relief in any way possible!
