I caved....I admit it.
: When my midwife said we might be able to hear the baby's heartbeat with an Doppler, I caved and said "yes!". Never thought I would, but just to hear the heartbeat made the last two months of nausea & vomitting so worth it!!!
My husband was so bummed to know he had missed it but at the same time, so happy to know that his or her heartbeat is strong. And he made me promise that we'll listen again on our next visit at the end of April.

LOL...I think she "flattered" me into doing it though b/c she said since my waist was so skinny that it would be easier to hear. I laughed and assured her that it was only b/c of the vomitting that I was skinny!

Anyhoo...just had to share my good news. The hearbeat was 166 bpm...is there any legitimacy to the whole over 140 bpm means a girl?!?

Thats Great Chai!

Isnt it something being able to listen to that little heartbeat : O ) My MW uses the doppler ( of course if you wish) and it ends up being only about 2xs because after that you are usually far enough along she can hear it with the fetoscope/stethoscope.

My DH loves the sound of the heartbeat. Hopefully, we will hear it by our next apt. At 9wks we couldnt hear it though my next apt is at 13wks so we should be able to hear it then : O )

Sorry, I think the research on heartbeats is completely inconclusive. Can't start buying baby girl clothes yet...

Nope, my son had 150+ heartbeats most of the time. And he is ALL BOY.

I think there is some truth to the HB thing...but not necessarily true in everyone.

For me...my son was always around 120.
My daughters have all been 140-160 (mostly hovering around 150)

When I had my little freak-out & went to the mw @ 11 weeks...they said that it was 150. But that early in pregnancy it's always faster/higher...and as the pregnancy progresses it slows down.
I heard that the HB thing is more of an indicator (if at all??) toward the end of the pregnancy.

I heard mine too at 12 weeks. I also could not resist the doppler and find it very comforting to hear for the first time. Our midwife will use the pinnard or fetoscope from now on, at my request. The HB was 150 & I do have a feeling I'm having a girl so we'll see how it all plays out
