I just got my bumgenuis-question about washing.

I just ordered them Fri. from www.abbyslane.com and they already got here-soo fast! They instructions for the outside say wash WARM, hang dry and the inserts say wash HOT and dry warm. So does that mean I can't wash them togather?? I hope not. Also I guess you don't have to dry them on high heat to lock in the PUL like other cloth diapers. Does anyone know? TIA

I wondered the same thing. I've washed my bg on hot with no ill effects, and I know others have washed and dried them on hot with no problems. That said, they will probably hold up longer over time if washed in warm. I've experimented with washing temps, and both the bg pockets and inserts seem to get plenty clean on warm. However, I'm finding it's too much of a pain to wash these separately from my other diapering stuff (toddler trainers, wipes) that gets washed on hot, so I plan to wash them on hot just because I can't deal with doing a separate load all the time. I sincerely hope they can take it.

Oh, and re: drying, the inserts hang dry just fine,but you can also pull the pockets out before drying the inserts. That said, many have dried them with no problems.

I wash and dry mine together and haven't had any problems yet.

I've been washing/drying the shell of my BG on hot along with all my other diapering things. I know that goes against the care instructions, but I decided to do it anyway since our Bumkins AIOs which are made of the same outer material have always held up fabulously to hot washes/dries even though they too are supposed to be warm wash/hang to dry. I'm just horrible about remembering to warm wash or hang dry just a few select items a certain way, and the diapers get so much cleaner on hot. Anyway... I hate to say that after just a few washes our BG looked awful, dingy overall, and the stretchy tab material snagged horrible after just a couple of washes. I don't know if washing on warm and hanging to dry would've really prevented any of that or not. I also don't know about whether it's important to seal the holes like in pul. I will say that even with the hot washes and machine drying and ratty appearance, the function is great... no leaks and it fits my baby awesome. However, I just don't think I'll buy more because of the cosmetic issues. I'd lean towards telling you to wash warm and hang to dry to see if that makes a difference... Maybe yours will hold up better.. Good luck

I have a question. Did you get your bG in the last few weeks or have you had them for awhile? Just wondering because they have changed the laundry tab and the stretchy material and it dosen't snag anymore.

Yeah, I had one of the original ones, and the tabs snagged horribly. Now I have all new-style ones and they are soooo much nicer - no snagging at all!

I've had mine for about 6-7 weeks. I'm sure I have the older style.

That's nice to hear that the new style is so much better. Wish that I'd waited just a few more weeks to buy mine.

Thanks, I'm just going to wash them in hot w/ my other pockets and see what happens. I guess they don't have to be dried on hot in drier to lock PUL? I usually dry the inserts in drier and hang dry the outer part.

I heard that if you send back the old style ones they will send you replacements. I'm not sure if that is true but might be worth an e-mail to find out.

We have both old-style and new-style. Our old-style ones look kind of ratty, as you describe (but they function just fine), and our new-style ones look great and seem new even after using and washing. I think the fabric is different. We wash in hot and dry on warm every day (we don't have very many so we just wash daily).
