Fixed link

Not that I have anyone to send it to, or money to buy anything, but I thought that I might as well start this. I have to have the Practical Guide book by July 5th (my first OFFICIAL sit in as an apprentice) and I have to get a blood pressure cuff. I wish someone was selling or donating all or some of their midwifery books (I knew someone who had that happen to her) but I can't get that lucky!! I have no idea how I will get these, but I know that they will come to me when I need them. I am so excited!! I am just watching the birth for the most part, doula-ing and maybe some herbal work, but yay!!

Edited to add: Any others I should add or take off?

hey sarah, when i click on your link i get sent to my wishlist... did you email yourself the link and then cut and paste that into your post? 'cause if you just cut and pasted the link from your browser, that will only let you see the wishlist (darn cookies and amazon...)

ok, so i just reset my cookies and it's sending me to a weird pick your wishlist page...

so i did a test and sent myself a link of my own wishlist and realized that i actually needed to cut and paste the amazon.com/gp/registry/random12digitregistrycode address in the email (clicking on it doesn't work, so i physically had to select it and copy it) and that worked.

weird amazon.

The Varney's Midwifery Study Question book is pretty medically-oriented, just so you know. I couldn't answer half the questions in that book correctly before I took my NARM! It stressed me out!

the books you listed are all ones i have heard of that midwives use, but since i have no practical experience with them, i have nothing to tell you about them or additional midwifery related ones to add.

you did mention some herbal work... do you already own susun weed's wise woman herbal (title???) or herbs for the childbearing years (title?)?

peace to you on your continuing journey of service to women...

warmly,
claudia

Duh I just saw your other post about it. It sounds great! I did something like that last year, with two midwives that worked with the Amish. i stopped due to being too far away, I'd always miss the births. But it was very cool! Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your list!

I would add this:

When Survivors Give Birth: Understanding and Healing the Effects of Early Sexual Abuse on Childbearing Women by Penny Simkin, Phyllis Klaus

I agree too much Varney.... pick the main text

Mayes' is not essential either just an extra

I would also recommend you try to get ahold of some of these books via interlibrary loan-- look them over before you purchase
also look for used copies

I got a lot of my books second hand at the local university bookstore (which has a CNM program) . My Myles I got for $3 at a thrift store.
Ebay sells a lot of these books as well.

My BP cuff and stethoscope I got for $20 at a discount medical supply store. You buy the cuff and they throw in the stethescope for free. I use it for both baby and mama.

Varney's will confuse you before the NARM, too much information (it's geared towrds CNM) that won;t be on the exam.

I have also bought those cuffs at the college , and they have great colors- but I bought from e-bay a stethoscope dual head Littman- softer ear pieces and lighter weight doesn't hurt my ears

I will add in the Survivors book, thanks! Do you think that just the 4th edition of Varneys will work? The reason that I added in the others is that on the NARM list (that I used just to help decide some good books) they have the 2nd edition. Are they both similar?

Hi Sarah,
I am fairly sure that buying Mayes and Myles is a waste of money. You won't need both, just one. I have Mayes, and it's fine.

Also, you have a lot by the same author, just a personal thought, but I would try to get more range of authors, you haven't got Ina May!!! you may already have it, but if not, spiritual midwifery or the guide to childbirth I think is a must.

I have both Ina May's books already. I was paid in books once, so I have the whole API list as well as a lot of doula/birth books.

I will take off one of them But I like Odent for myself!
