I was really bad with my first pregnancy. Here are some things that worked for me: orange juice first thing in the morning before food, coffee in the morning (yes, with caffeine. It doesn't take much), avoid: red meat, white flour, white rice and sugar. The very *best* thing that cured my constipation was fresh raw carrot juice. If you don't already have a juicer, borrow one or find some way to try it fresh made to see if it works for you. Good luck!

There's a great homeopathic remedy you could try called Silicea.

Also adding 2 or more Tbsps hemp or flax oil to your diet daily should help! Try mixing it into a smoothie. If you can't stand the oil straight, you can also get capsules, but you'd need to take about 6 capsules a day to get the equivalent of 2+ Tbsp's oil.

Avoid ice water and iced drinks. Sip on herbal tea and room temp water.

A cup of hot water w/ juice of 1/2 a lemon in it before breakfast can help some.

Avoid:
bananas
citrus
white flour
white sugar
raw broccoli, cauliflour, and carrots
ice cream
cold milk
fried foods
tofu

Eat plenty of:
steamed, roasted, grilled, and baked vegis
apples, pears, plums, apricots, and berries
prunes & figs
yogurt
saur kraut
miso
sea weed
kefir
amazake
whole grains
tempeh
salmon
hemp seeds, sesame seeds, flax meal

Adding probiotics to your daily routine can sometimes make a difference.

I too am a fan of a cup or 2 of coffee in the morning to keep things 'moving'. Last preg I had a really hard time with constipation. My midwife recommended all the high fiber foods, lots of liquids, and the occasional glycerine suppository.

Still though, the coffee works best for me. Even half a cup or so... it doesn't take much.

Yes, I had this too for the first few months of this pregnancy. No fun! Caffeine (soda) usually helped me. Several things I was supposed to avoid (cheese, red meat) were on a short list of things that I could stomach at that time.

It was strange to have that on my mind so much during the day. The good news -- it did get better. I haven't had any problems in many months now. Hope it gets better for you very soon.

lots of good suggestions here, personally not a coffee fan, but drank lots of herbal tea (especially red raspberry and nettles, sometimes singly and sometimes combined. Be sure to get a good quality I like Alvita and Traditional Medicinals (Pregnancy tea has a nice flavor. The warm water first thing in the a.m on an empty stomach seems a good thing for the colon.)

How 'bout exercise, are you walking and breathing and relaxing?

I'm not generally constipated but on those off days, I find that taking nice gentle breaths while sitting on the toilet and rubbing my outer calves gently and mindlessly seems to have some kind of magic to it. (I'm a bodyworker and have never heard anyone say anything about this, but for me I find that it really does help to relax the body and help to "ease it out".

Since you've been stuck for a bit now, on the worst of the worst days my last resort position for bringing relief is actually getting up on the toilet seat and into a squatting position you will be bare footed and carefully supporting yourself by using the sink if you can. You need to make sure that this is a position that you can safely get into and support yourself well in, if your not too big you may find that it can work for you. (ANd if you do get up on the seat, Like mamorag had said... NO STRAINING, just allow the body to gently do the work, your job is to relax. That is of course after you have put in some fresh food ruffage and good water. Oh girl I hope you're feeling lighter REAL SOON

take good care and be well.

Try taking a little stool into the bathroom to put your feet up on. I have a little IKEA children's stool. It's supposed to be for the cat to climb into her litter box, but I "borrow" it. It helps me comfortably spend a few minutes thinking things over.

Can you go get a massage? That always makes me have to go, I think it's a detox thing.
