I know that yogurt can be used as an insert for vaginal yeast infections, but what about kefir?
Pat wrote about kefirs cultures staying better than yogurt. I am hoping she will chime in too.

You are ttc, correct? I don't believe that kefir is meant to be placed vaginally. Folks have done some alternative care, though. But, I would not feel comfortable doing so.

The kefir microbials were evaluated based upon gut microbial balance. I've not heard of anyone trying it vaginally.

is yogurt really more microbially balanced though? i mean, yogurt suppositories are recommended all the time for yeast infections.

Theoretically, all of our orifices are able to reach microbial balance, naturally. However, I believe it all starts in the gut. The vaginal "treatment" route, seems like a bandaid approach to me. When we consume viable probiotics in an acid medium, the gut microflora is self-balancing. When we consume antibiotics (medically or in our food sources), we disrupt that microbial balance. Thus, we get other microbial imbalances throughout the body. I'd address the issue at the source, with whole food probiotics.

Thanks Pat. I don't think I am going to use kefir vaginally now. I am treating yeast inside, but I wanted to help my body along from the other end. I am drinking ginger tea, and it is getting rid of the yeast imbalance. Do you know if it is bad to drink ginger tea around the same time as eating yogurt or taking probiotics?

The reason I am taking ginger tea is because I was crystal testing, and it said to rebalance the yeast in my body, I needed to drink ginger tea for 3 weeks. So I am, and have just finished the first week. I have had a terrible vaginal yeast infection for over a year, and it is almost gone. What a relief! I have tried everything. I don't recommend ginger for everyone, but I crystal tested that I needed it, and it is working.
