We are going to paint dd's bedroom soon and she wants purple. The room is about 12'x 14'. How dark can I go without it being too dark for the size of the room? I think a paler purple would look better but she wants something darker which is fine with me but I don't want it to be too dark in case it makes the room look closed in. Make sense.....

I painted my dd's room with "sliverberry" behr paint from the home depot.. and it is a really good color for not so big spaces. I also painted her bed and stuff white and sponged a lighter color purpleish pink over it to brighten it up. The color reminds me of a grape laffy taffy.

The people who owned our condo before us had a 13 year old DD who had a purple room. The shade they had on the walls was about like this: Violet Fields, 650B-4<br><br>
It was actually a really nice color, we just painted it because the whole house was being painted and we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, so I went with sage green.

What color will the bedding be? Might I suggest white with white curtains? And perhaps make one wall white with dark purple stripes or polka dots to add some major visual interest and a total "wow" factor. I love the idea of a nice dark purple, very regal and totally cool!!

We hung beaded curtains that are normally for a door over the window in front of hte blinds instead of using real curtains. It turned out really cute and they are clear so the sun shines through them and kind makes them light up.

I just showed dd the color Violet Fields and she loved it!!! Her bedspread is purple and green and we will have to make new curtains. Was the color too dark for the size of the room?

My dd's bedroom is a VERY dark purple. It's not a clear, bright purple, as it's definitely toned down with some grey. The room is about 12'x13' and I think it looks great. It's very relaxing. She has sheer white curtains and white wood blinds. The trim and doors are white, and her bedding is light in color.

If just the walls and bedding were that color, and the flooring was neutral (they covered up PERFECT, beautiful, great condition hardwoods with purple wall to wall carpet!), and the blinds or window treatments and trim were white, it would have been an awesome room. But, like I said, they did purple overload and it was just too much. The same purple on the floor, walls and ceiling was dark and cavelike.<br><br>
What about that shade of purpole and then a 1-foot wide horizontal stripe around the whole room like 4 feet or so off the floor of a lighter shade, or a darker shade?

Total pain in the ass, but what about doing wide vertical stripes, alternate lavender and purple.

Yeah, no kidding. I am trying to let her have the color that she wants and I know that she will not go for the stripes. She probably would not go for the horizontal stripe either. We do have hardwood floors and the ceiling is white. She has two good sized windows in her room on two separate walls so the room gets light all day long so that will hopefully take away from the 'darkness'.<br><br>
I am excited to get started!!

My sister as a teenager painted her bedroom a sunset of dark colors, navy, burgundy and dk purple blended into one another. It was gorgeous. She had the smallest room in the house, and the paint job did make it seem even smaller, but if she's comfortable with it, then I would say go for it.
