My new baby boy is only 5 days old, and I love bf'ing! He was born via c/s and I still don't really feel like I've had a baby. Which makes me even more grateful for my boobs. Because every time he nurses, I feel like I heal just a little bit from not being able to have a vaginal delivery. It helps me to really feel instinctively like he is my son. I know that I am the only person who can nourish him in the way he needs and that makes me feel like a mom even if I don't feel like I had a baby.

The one hitch that we are working on is that I have fairly short nipples and it's hard for ds to latch on... so I'm using a nipple shield. Hopefully I'll be able to wean off of that soon.

Congrats on your new baby!

I also had some latch problems in the first couple of week with my first baby. Fortunately I didn't need nipple shields but nursing was uncomfortable until her mouth grew big enough to latch on properly.

Aw, that's great! I'm glad nursing is helping you heal from the emotional trauma of your C-section. I hope the latch problem corrects itself very soon.

We used shields at first too, but were able to ditch them after a while. I was sure grateful for them there at the beginning! (And I went to a LLL meeting and totally had nipple envy. Mine never did get bigger, but they ended up "working" just fine.)
