It rocks! I just went out there to put more leftovers in it and digged a hole and felt that heat coming out of it!! I was so HAPPY!!! HOlly cow is that hot in there!! The food is decomposting so FAST! I can't find it after only a week of putting it in there.
Anyway, just wanted to share my success story!!!!

I could not have done it without you!

On my backyard, in the far corner, shady corner.
I read the whole thread here on compost (it's sticky) and started one I think in January. It was not doing that well until spring started and I was able to put lots of greens in there, plus lots of horse manure from local stables! After that it started to really cook in there!!

Hmmmm. I suppose I should add some manure to mine as well. It's, um, not so cookin'.

Glad you are having such great success. Mine is doing great, too. Getting the green/brown ratio close to 4:1 is really important in getting the heat going. When I don't have enough browns around, I use shredded paper (which I make sure is printed with safe soy-based ink first.)

Grass clippings are a great source of those greens- I always have more than enough!
