Omg! I had a pretty big bill from my lawyer this last yearish (ex kept dragging me back and forth). I've been paying some every month but it seemed like I was never getting ahead (since she's still doing work for me every month the bill just stays about the same bc what I pay each month is about what she charges during the month). I got my monthly bill yesterday and was blown away- she wrote off almost the entire bill!!! She left $35 on my bill (and then charged another $35 for some work she did for me) so I just have $70 left! A tiny fraction of what I owed! I will pay that off this month and then, hopefully, be able to pay it off every month. When I think about how much i've paid her over the last 8 years it makes me sick. If I had been able to put that money in an account for Owen he would have been set for quite awhile after he turns 18.

<p>That's wonderful! One law firm I've been paying small amounts to did the same for me. Wrote off $400. I'm so grateful. They never hounded me for payments, either. </p>

<p>I think that a lesson on how much you can spend on attorney fees over custody/visitation/child support should be part of sex ed classes in high schools. </p>

<p>You are so fortunate.  I've spent $38,000 total in legal fees over the last 8 years.  Most of it was what would have been my inheritance, because I didn't have the money.  On one go-around, I spent $12,000 over a two year period.  I've wondered what our lives would be like if I didn't have every extra penny going toward legal fees, and I might bring it up to ex the next time he takes me to court.  But in all these years, he's never won anything.  I think his purpose is to keep me broke, to get back at me.  If I talked with him directly about how much I've wasted in court expenses, he would probably be happy that his work was not in vain :(</p>

<p>My bill is over $30,000 mostly due to sbx being in contempt. We are asking that the court orderes sbx pay for the majority of my legal fees.</p>

<p>I'd love to have her name in a p.m. if you get the chance.  My lawyer turned out to be bipolar and totally messed up the custody issue...X does not have overnights now, but if he pushes for them, I will need to go back to court, with a new lawyer.</p>

Just had a thought - its tax season. I bet writing those hours off as pro bono helped her out a lot!!</div>
