Okay, I made Carter a toddler size bucket hat before and it was too big, so I made him the infant size, it works but is really a little too small so he is in between sizes. I decided to knit the toddler size again in pattons classic and if it was too big I could felt it. Well, I got to about 3 1/2 inches height and thought it was going to fit great so I just finished it off since I didn't intend to wash it to shrink it like you would the cotton. But, then it was too big again. So, I decided to risk it and felt it anyways and give it to someone if it got too small. I LOVE IT! I do wish I had done the extra height so he could have another inch but I love the effect and the colour how it turned out. The brim looks great now. Here's a pic,

ohhhhhh, HOW CUTE IS THAT?!??!

Love it, and that's one cute babe you've got there

FWIW, the hat is sized to be shrunk a bit, since it's geared to cotton. Once you knit it it should be washed and dried so the cotton shrinks down - try that with the first one you knit that was too big and see if it helps

Thanks Theresa. The other toddler one was too much too big to shrink but I think this one would have shrunk to the right size if it was in cotton since I didn't make the height quite so high. I'm going to try knitting another one in cotton the same size as this one and try shrinking like you suggest. This one looked pretty darn cute before felting and really not that much too big, it really just needed a little shrinking.
