I was unsuccessful finding horehound drops/candy for the recent bout of hacking. But I did stumble on a recipe for Horehound candy. I made a strong tea of a green tea w/ triple echinacea (and kombucha-yogi tea brand) and a licorice tea (stash brand). Used it in place of the water portion for hard candy. Everyone is loving it! Does anyone else make their own?

Make a strong tea of your choice (horehound, licorice etc)
In a medium size sauce pan add
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 cup of the strong tea

Stir to dissolve sugar.
Bring to boil over medium heat. (don't stir from this point on)
After 3-5 minutes start "checking" it.(temperature)
(to check hard candy-get a coffee cup and add cold water from the tap. Using a teaspoon, dip the spoon in the boiling mixture, and dribble it in the cold water. Candy is "ready" when it makes a breakable, brittle string in the water (it will make soft balls in the bottom of the cup before the brittle string stage) (Also I usually smell it when it's ready it just starts to just smell like "burnt sugar") pour into lightly oiled cookie sheet and cool. Break into pieces when cool. Store in tight fitting jar.
you can use brown sugar if you please.
