My wipes are varying sizes, but all bigger than 6x6 inches. I made some around that size which work great for me, but DH had a problem with getting poop on his hands so I made some bigger. When I made them I eyeballed them to I don't think it matters if they are different sizes, just as long as they are big enough to do the job Some are square some are more rectangular, I may make some circular ones just for fun.

So size doesn't matter... but how many do you need at each poopy diaper change?? I feel like I use about 7-8 wipes with the really messy poos which is why I haven't changed to cloth wipes yet.

I use fewer cloth wipes for a dirty diaper than I ever did with disposables. I have way too many, probably around 60, which is a good number for a newborn that's pooping all the time but way more that I need with my toddler. I could probably get by with 30-40, but they're so easy to make. We never run out

At one change, I usually use 1 wipe, MAYBE two if it's a really really really messy poop. In that case, I would use the diaper to wipe most of it off first, then use wipe #1 to get the rest of the big stuff off, then use wipe #2 to get anything remaining and just to make sure everything is clean. I have NEVER needed more than 3 cloth wipes. Cloth wipes just work SO much better than sposie wipes. I had to use sposie wipes one time today because there weren't any cloth ones nearby and DS had poop on his hand from sticking it in his poopy diaper, so I had to get him to the nearest bathroom. So I used the sposie wipes, and it took like 4 wipes to get him clean. It wasn't even a really messy poop! It was a mostly solid poop with some stuff that got stuck to his skin, and the sposie wipes just slide right over the poop, rather than grabbing it and picking it up like a cloth wipe does. If I had been using cloth on that poop, I would have only needed 1 wipe.

I think I have about a dozen wipes right now, and that's plenty for my toddler. For a newborn, I'd probably have at least as many wipes as I have diapers, since you can often have a poopy for every diaper change!

I made about 40 wipes before my DS was born and that was just right for us. I still get good use out of them all as nose & sticky finger wipes! I made all mine 8x8 (a size to cover my hand spread out) but that was just because I like things all neat and tidy like that.... .

I've never used more than 2-3 cloth wipes for really messy poops. I think they take the poop off better. I don't know how many I have, I'd make around 40-60 so you can use some for wiping sticky fingers and such as mentioned above!
