I came home from school and discovered that dd up and decided that not only was yesterday the day she would learn to stand up (she'll be 11 mo Tuesday) but it was also the day she would learn to crawl! Granted she only did it a few paces but thats huge! I wasn't expecting crawling or standing for another couple months due to low muscle tone issues!

I know how heart breaking this can be. Hopefully your dcp took a pict or two. The way I finally came to look at it is, I may not see the very first time it happens, but the first time it happens FOR ME is my first time - if you see what I mean. I hope this helps. s

Satori! I would be sad, too, I think. I don't remember missing any major milestones like that, but who knows (and not knowing is sad to me, frankly) but I agree with Rani, that there are so many more times you'll see her crawl or stand up, that you can rejoice in all the "firsts" that you are there for, yk?

I still don't actually remember the first time either of the boys walked, although I'm sure I was there. I remember the first time DS2 rolled over because it was at about 2 am and I took him to the bathroom with me and layed him on the floor while I was going potty & he just rolled
right over - but it wasn't a moment that will stick with me forever the way other moments will.

Sometimes, it bugs me that, as moms, we've been so roped into believeing there are 5 or 10 "firsts" that "really matter" - rolling over, sitting, crawling, walking, etc. There are SO MANY firsts that, for me, are so much more meaningful - that first kick you feel, that first cry and the first time they nurse or the first day of school, or the first time they ride a bike or picking out their first pet, the first time they have ice cream or try a pickle ........ those are the things that I remember most fondly. I haven't even gotten to stuff like their first date or the first time they drive away in a car or their first day at college.......

I agree with Woobysma... there are SO many firsts that I think are pretty dang exciting, like first time riding a bike, first time writing a sentence... These firsts are things that both me and my kids remember. I honestly do not remember anything about when my kids started crawling, walking etc. I didn't even write anything down about it.

Mama I have missed some milestones too. But just remember you will see her stand and crawl for many months. You will be there to cuddle her and hold her hand for a long time. Nothing takes away from you being her mama. Hugs.
