we chopped out some seriously overgrown bushes of varying varieties from our front walkway.....now, even though i have bagged up the med/lg roots, rock, pieces etc, the soil is laden with lots of smaller crap that seems like it may be more in line with a good "sifting" before i attempt to rake it all level and plant my berry bushes. does something like this exist? seems like in my mind i remember seeing them being used in some archeological documentary...hmm

How about just stapling the wire mesh to two 2x2s so that you have a wooden handle on each end? That way the only work you have to do to make one is cutting the wire the length you want it and stapling it on the boards. No building a frame. It won't hold its shape, of course, but you could just dump a shovelful on, pick it up, and shake back & forth.
