DD's dipes are mostly AIO's (various brands) and UBCPFs with a Prowrap.
They all seem to wick. Well, there is one brand that I only had a minor issue with and have since fixed, but they are hyena dipes and not readily available.

One brand has been washed per instructions and wicks pretty horribly after about 1-1/2 hours (PUL backed prints). I plan to treat them with PWR, but STILL...

ANYWAY, I need an AIO that doesn't wick so readily. I'm probably not buying prints anymore because they seem to be a PITA.
The UBCPF work great, but her legs don't touch they are so bulky- aiming for trim and absorbant here.
TIA!

I haven't tried LHC yet. I'll take a look over there.

She's almost 3 weeks. I've been trying to change her frequently (don't ever go past 2 hours unless it's nighttime), but like I said before- even after an hour some wick pretty badly and her clothes get damp (but the soaker *is* wet, so maybe I should just add an extra soaker...).

The "hyena" AIO's we have actually work great for night (without an extra soaker). Both the bed and I stay dry even if it's been 4 hours.

Do fitteds with covers work better than AIO's??

Thanks for the links!

The legs and the back have fabric that wraps around the elastic from the inside of the diaper, so I suspect that the fabric is drawing the liquid from the inside to the outside and then it soaks across the outside fabric (mostly in the back).

ETA: Oh, and I've also noticed wicking through the aplix in the front.

wicking is when the outter layer gets wet. Normally happens when there is not enough "soaker" material to hold all the pee or when the AIO has been on the baby too long. It has no where else to go but out. HTH

My baby is almost 4 mos old now. In the first 10 weeks I could not leave anything on him more than an hour. I only used fitteds and cpfs on him then. Even at night I used a pocket with a hemp prefold and had to change him 3 or 4 times! Thankfully hes really slowed down.

Yes, fitteds and covers will work better than an aio, because its just like a cpf and a cover.

What size cpf are you using? What fold have you tried? Maybe you can try a different fold to get a trimmer fit.

I've had the most luck for non-wicking AIO's with pocket AIOs. Maybe it's their construction, but it takes a lot longer, and the soaker can be completely soaked first, before they start to wick. (DS's naps are the ultimate test for any diaper).

Fitteds and covers are much better for not wicking, but, yes, they tend to be less trim.

Sorry I couldn't be much help.

Michelle- I'm using premium CPFs with... I don't know the fold name. It's the same one my mom used on me when I was little- layed flat under bum, bring corners in at front, lift front to belly button, fold extra to inside and snappi.
Should I try a bikini twist or something? I'll have to learn more folds.

I didn't think she would need to be changed once every hour. The dipes didn't wick in the beginning, but I wonder if she just peed less then?

I've never had good luck with AIO's except Motherease AIO's. I like pocket diapers - they almost never wick (get the solids, not the prints) and are basically the same thing as AIO's except you have to stuff and unstuff them.

If the absorbent part of the aio is drenched beyond its capacity, there's nowhere for the pee to go but out! You need to try doublers, or just use fitteds/prefolds and covers until your lil one slows down on the peeing. Newborns DO indeed pee a LOT for their size! It's perfectly normal to have to change them more often than larger babies.

All of my prints wick. Doesn't matter what brand - the pockets do it too. I strongly recommend waterproofing spray which fixed all of mine.
That said, for such a little one I'd be tempted to stick with solids, preferably white. I have 2 white happy heinys that after 2 years of heavy use NEVER wick and have not been sprayed....also have been put in dryer, abused, etc...

Everybody's experiences are so different on this issue I have wondered if it is affected by "pee patterns" i.e. front wetting? heavy stream? etc....
Add absorbancy and spray the prints is my advice.
Good luck!
