Just got my Paraguard IUD pulled out on Friday. I've had it in for six months and have consinstently had 2 weeks of bleeding. The first week is spotting and the 2nd week is more like a regular period. I started spotting on the 13th and spotting now as the bleeding comes to an end.

We want to TTC but not until August or September. I'd like to start charting to figure things out ahead of time. I'm unsure how to begin this, with the 2 week long bleeding. Do I just need to buy up some condoms until things regulate?

I'm not a *master* but I hope I'll do (I've been charting since 10/04 so I do have some experience)

In the book taking charge of your fertility the author says that you need to use back up for several cycles. In the art of natural family planning, the authors give you guidelines for when you're safe your very first cycle (after several days of thermal shift and dry up, basicly only after ovulation is confirmed). I'd pick up one of the two books I mentioned, a basal thermometer and some condoms and go from there.

If you don't have a thermal shift preceeding the bleeding, it isn't considered a safe time (even though chances are it is a safe time for you if you've been having regular cycles, you can't prove that it is with out the thermal shift)
