A few years ago my grandmother gave me a pressure canner. I have never canned before, even though I am excited and anxious to learn. On the box the canner came in was a big pink sticker that said not to use it on glass ceramic stovetops, which is what I have. My stepmom tells me to use it anyway, she uses hers on her glass ceramic stove with no problems. The instruction booklet that came with the canner doesn't say anything about not using it, just the one pink sticker on the box. I am not afraid to break the canner, I am terrified of ruining my stove. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I really want to can my own food. (without buying anything new)

DO NOT use this on your stove!! It gets super heavy and hot, which is why they are a
for flat tops. If your stovetop does break, your warranty will be voided.

Instead, get an inexpensive propane camping stove. This is what we use. This has the advantage of not heating your house up, and (duh!) being useful camping equipment.

I seond this. Yes, I've known folks that do can on glass top stoves, some have been okay, but many have broken. The canner filled with quart jars and water is HEAVY. Don't risk it, get a camping stove.
