After tons of research we bought the Baby Trend infant seat and I have hated it since the day we bought it!!!!! The straps are all the way out and they are too small for her and she is only 2mo. 14lbs. So......

I need a convertible and cannot decide.

Which one is a great price and safe and easy to use???

I hate having all my babies in the winter! Makes it hard to keep them warm!

Any suggestions?

I'd go ahead and repost this in the Family Safety forum.

It sounds like there's something wrong with your seat. The straps should definitely fit a 2 mos old!

Take the baby out of the seat, take any bundle-mes or whatever off the seat, and turn the seat over so you can see the harness path on the back. Now hold the harness release and pull the straps out as far as they will go (may need a second person to help you) and see what is happening.

All harnesses basically work the same way when you look at the back--the shoulder straps come down through the shoulder slots and are hooked on a metal y-shaped thing, which is in turn attached to the single strap that comes up by the baby's feet to let you adjust the tension of the straps.

I suspect that either the Y-shaped strap holder is catching on something or that the y-shaped holder is attached to a higher loop on the shoulder straps. Several models of car seats have multiple loops for that y-connector to go on, and when the baby is older it needs to be moved down to the lowest loops.

the britax marathon is a great convertible seat. it's not cheap but totally worth it. it is so easy to install, esp if you have latch.

Yes we have the lach system!!!

And yes I did pull the strape as far out as they will go and the croch thing is out all the way too. I even took everything out of it and it is still a bit too tight!

I have had kids in carseats for 8yrs and I know how to use them. I read the instrustion book through. I know I am not the only one having a problem with short straps in this seat. There is a mom at out church having the same problem with her 11lb newborn.

My ds was too tall for the snugride he started out in by 3-4 months. I am not a fan of most baby buckets because of that. The only ones I would even think of getting are the Graco SafeSeat 1 or the one from Chico sp? they both go to 30lbs and fit taller kids. My dd is 6 years old so I've also had kids in car seats for a long time now and the seats have changed so much in just 6 years. The recommendations on how to keep kids safe has changed tons too! I never heard you should keep a child rear facing past a year when she was little, but it was a big thing by the time ds was a year old. Because of trying to keep them rf longer I would highly sugest one of the Britax seats that rf to 35 lbs with high harness straps or the Radian which also has a high seat back although I don't know what weight limit it rfs to.

I've never heard of this problem w/ this seat. Are the straps at or below baby's shoulders? If so, I'd call the manufacturer and throw a royal fit till they sent you new straps. That' ridiculous to have a seat outgrown at 14# that should still fit. How big are her diapers?

How is your baby dressed? Any coats, buntings, etc? If baby is wearing a sleeper or onsie, the carseat should definitely fit and have plenty of room for growth!

Nope no bunting or anything. But sometimes her diapers are bigger. We just use a prefold and a bummis cover most of the time. The straps are behind her shoulders about one inch and the straps are all the way out.

I called Baby Trend and they refused to refund me or replace it and said they would send me new straps but they would be the exact same ones. DD has a longer torso but not weird long or anything???

Thinking about the Chicco?

You can adjust the crotch strap length on this seat, not the position from the baby.

it looks like the shouder straps are adjusted in a way that is very similar to the Scerena and on my Scerena if the shoulder straps are fully loosened the strap between the legs is just the "hemmed" edge that keeps it from coming all the way loose shows......to reposition the shoulder straps on my Scerena you have to remove them from a Y shaped metal piece and then rethread them at the next shoulder height.....

Ok I just read the Instruction Manual for the seat and it sounds like it adjusts just like the Scenera (other than the buckle length adjustment) and that if strap between the legs is all the way in i cant fathom how the shoulder straps would be tight.... have you adjusted the shoulder slot height?

so there is no rethreading going on? all of the manuals on the babytrend website talked about a rethreading tool and had instructions for rethreading............ if you could take pictures of the front, back and maybe underneath the headrest we could all help you a lot better.......... which model do you have the flex loc or another?

YOu have to rethread if you take the cover off to wash it, there's no rethreading involved to adjust the harness height.
