I want to knit. I really do. I *think* I'm getting the hang of it. I can knit, purl, CO, BO, sorta increase and decrease (still not sure if I'm increasing correctly, it sure doesnt look right), working on knitting in the round next, but for the life of me the patterns make no sense.
Like, what does K 0, CO 0 sts, k to end of row mean? Knit zero stitches, then cast on zero stitches? wth? lol I'm sure that isnt what it means, or else that would be useless, but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. I'm trying to do the Technicolor techno-cozy in SnB, or rather I'm thinking abt it. I'm so afraid to go spend money on yarn and screw it up. sigh. All the stinking pattern is, is knitting and purling and some color changes.

And I want to do socks one of these days. I can't even knit a stinking 2.5 x 5.25 bag.

you do sometimes cast on in the middle of a row to add a bunch of stitches. but you can't do that casting on 0, nor can you knit 0. Can you type in the actual pattern or link to it? What is it for?

This is the Cricket's Technicolor techno-cozy from Stitch 'n bitch page 178. Sounds simple enough until it gets to *that* part :LOL

CO 16 sts

Working in St st
throughout, work 2 rows A,
*4 rows B, 2 rows C, 4 rows B **8 rows A

Rep from *2 times more, then from * to ** once

Cint with A, work 2 rows. Piece should measure approx 10.5 in

BO 2 sts, k to end of row

BO 5 sts, p 0, BO 0 sts, p to end of row.

K 0, CO 0 sts, k to end of row, CO 3 sts using single CO

Work 3 more rows A.

Then work 4 rows B, 2 rows C, 4 rows B, 2 rows A.

BO all sts. YOur peice should meausre approx 13"

Ah, but you left out some details!

This pattern has three different sizes for cell, iPod and PalmPilot. I assume that you are making the cell phone size, given the numbers you've given me. (I have the book - sorry for making you type it all up!)

The reason the numbers are different is that when you make the cell phone one, they leave a corner open for the antenna to stick out. So while you'll need to cast on more stitches for the other sizes, you won't for the cell phone one. So for those rows,

BO5 sts, p to end of row

K to end of row, CO 3 sts using single CO.
