Please help me diced which med would be best for me. I thought Paxil was the best choice, but just did a search on it and saw all the withdrawal threads.
: Basically, I have a doc that you figure out what you need and then tell her, at least when it comes to these types of things. I just saw her Friday and she asked me what was safe while bf'ing! Her little palm pilot had no clue. I guess I don't mind, since I research things to death. Anyway, I have no insurance now till Aug due to my dh's job change. And I'm scared of this Paxil withdrawal, I've only taken 2 pills and won't take one tomorrow.

So here's the breakdown: I am not really depressed, I'm irritable, snappy, moody, & anxious. But not forlorn or sad. I am breastfeeding, and chose not to try Wellbutrin because I already have supply issues due to a breast reduction 12 yrs ago. I'm overweight, so I'd rather not gain more, but I know that just might happen. I am so snappy with my 3 1/2 yr old that I finally decided I need a medication. I'm not very patient and kind to her, I snap at her and act unpredictable. I didn't want a med, but it's getting terrible.

I know you aren't my doc, and all - but what would you suggest? Because I need to call her Monday and figure out what I want a Rx for. She agreed I needed something, but left it up to me what to take. I may need a more informed doc, but I can't do that either right now because of the insurance change.

Thank you for helping me!
I need your experiences to make a decision!

I just started on Zoloft, which I belive is safe during bfding; and it doesn't have withdrawls when stopping. Weight gain isn't a side effect, in fact, losing a pound or two is a common side effect. I was told that Zoloft is good for the symptoms you mentioned; that's why I started on it

I used to take Prozac years ago, and there were no withdrawls from stopping that one, either. I didn't have any side effects, but it didn't help much for my anxiety.

My doctor is against Paxil due to the addiction/withdrawls/side effects. If the Zoloft doesn't work then he recommends Buspar.

Good luck!

Resa,

You pretty much summed up why I take Zoloft. Even I can not stand myself when I am off my meds. Imagine how the rest of my family feels!

Zoloft is safe to take while breastfeeding. I have now nursed three babies while taking it.

BTW, to save money, I had my doc write my prescription for 100 mg tablets even though I take 50 mg. For example; here is Costco's prices:

ZOLOFT 100MG TABLET (30 tabs) $76.67

ZOLOFT 50MG TABLET (30 tabs) $76.57

As you can see; they are practically the same price. The tablets are scored for easy splitting. The 50 mg tabs are also scored.

Any other questions? Feel free to ask away

My mom works in a pharmacy and she said this same thing today! I told her "I know, one of my online friends told me about that!" Thanks for the hint! I won't have health ins till Sept so I have to pay full price.

My dh was on Zoloft for a year, he had sexual side effects and was so sleepy it was ridiculous. Do you ladies have that experience?

I think I have it narrowed down to Zoloft or Lexapro. My dd is almost 8 months, so I don't think the sedation of Lexapro is a big concern. What other side effects should I consider?

It's nice to have a doc who listens to me and all, but I sort of feel silly trying to figure this out myself!

I've only been on it a week so far, and haven't had any side effects at all yet. I didn't have any side effects from Prozac, either. Interesing, because I'm super sensitive to most drugs, especially OTC stuff. Hmmmmmmm.....

I know other people who have said that they had sexual side effects (decreased libido, vaginal dryness, etc.) with Zoloft, but I have not experienced those myself. I've been taking Zoloft for about five months and the only effect is the restoration of my sanity! :LOL

I would say that whatever you try, know that if it doesn't work for you, there are other things to try. If you choose Zoloft (and that sounds like the best choice to me -- I also did A LOT of reasearch on the subject before starting medication) and you have side effects that you can't handle or it doesn't work to check your anxiety/depression, try something else. Every medication works differently for different people!

I took Zoloft for a year and had MAJOR withdrawl - cranky, VERY anxious, cold sweats, tremors, headaches, nausea. I will not take it again. It was how i imagine withdrawl from hard street drugs to be. I also suffered major sexual side effects, and am still having libido issues now, 3 years later. Everyone is different, so i dont know how you will react, but be careful.
I hope you find something that works for you!
