nak

Yesterday, my girls were both starving and screaming and I was alone with them. It was quickly made clear that if we were all going to keep our sanity - I had no choice... I had to nurse them together.

And I did it!!! It was a little awkward and I'm sure it would have been hilariously entertaining to any on-lookers, but I nursed two babies at once with just my own two hands!!

*side-note: this was also exciting, b/c until recently one of my girls was still having latch issues and needing help, but when I didn't have a free hand to help her, she did just fine! It turns out I might actually survive bfing twins after all.

Congrats!!! It IS a juggling act, isn't it!

The only time I nursed 2 at once, one of them was a toddler so it was a bit different- she could hold her own head, climb onto my lap by herself, etc, but she could also wiggle and push her sister off so it had its disadvantages as well.

CONGRATS! See you really do have more than two hands!!!

It is really amazing to have both those little faces looking up at you isn't it? I tandem nurse my twins a lot--usually for the really hungry nursing sessions when they're both ready to eat and don't want to wait. But I also like nursing them separately, like when one is asleep and the other wants to nurse, because it's nice to have some one-on-one time too. Plus I still haven't figured out how to tandem nurse while lying down--at least not without two boppies, extra pillows and help from DH. Maybe once they get some head control we can do it.

Every time we manage to do something successfully, just the three of us, I have this tremendous feeling of satisfaction and independence. Glad you're feeling that too!!!

XO to you and your twins!

Yeah!!! It will only get easier (to tandem nurse, anyhow
: ) from here.

I figured out how to do it at night first, out of desparation!! Just lie on your side, leaning slightly back and lay one babe on your side/belly. The other lies on the bed. For awhile, you need to help hold the top babies head up or slightly to th side, for comfort and breathing, but eventually, they figure out how to do it by themselves.

What a thrill! Good for you! (and for them
) One of the nice things about nursing twins is that (IMO) the fascination doesn't dull. . . my little guys are 6 months now. My husband and I still marvel almost every time at seeing two little faces looking up with wonder, contentment, what-have-you.

Congratulations!

Rock'n'Roll!!! Awesome job mama! It's such a great feeling to get to the stage where you can nurse them together! Once mine got the hang of it we almost always nursed all together. I always used the EZ2 Nurse pillow though, amazing you did it by yourself without it! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tandem nursing rocks. We ate lunch at an outdoor italian bistro last weekend. I tandem nursed our babes (w/o the boppy!) and the kitchen staff came out to have a look! It was actually very sweet--not gawking, but marveling. So nice to have a good TNIP experience!

a big pat on the back to you!!!

i rember the feeling distinctly!!

i always tandem nursed. i had a loveseat that i called 'lactation station'.

the visiting nurse helped me to figure out how to situate myself so that baby a was lying on the love seat next to me, while i got baby b latched on. then i scooped baby a up with one hand and got that one latched on. i always used a boppy and i'd try (not always successfu though) to remember which baby was on which breast last.

i loved seeing those little faces looking up at me while the nursed...i miss it. my daughter weaned herself at 13 months while away on a camping trip. my son weaned himself a month later once he spotted her with a cup of juice while he was nursing.

it's so incredibly rewarding and again, pat yourself on the back ~ you're doing great!
