i was talking with my friend yesterday and i was telling her how although there is nothing like nursing a baby - the fun starts when you nurse a talking toddler nursling! i love hearing "milk?" or "bye bye milk" followed with patting the boob or the latest - when i am showering with my 2 yo ds he points up and says "mine" then giggles, grabs them and just licks them! i crack up whenever he does that!

my sil has "unofficially" weaned her dd (i saw a can of formula on my mom's table
). i'm very proud of that fact that my niece is 11 months and that she was nursed longer than most - but i feel sad that my sil won't get to experience the fun nursing times yet to come.

don't get me wrong - there are times at 2:00am when i want to wean! but for the most part i wouldn't trade this relationship for the world!

anyone else feel the same way?

Well, my DS is only 12m old, but I ahave found that the longer I nurse the more I love it!
He gets so excited, he pats my breast, he has his own word/sound for it "bapm" - and I love it all, even the gymnastic nursing. hee hee. I can't wait to see how this "relationship" developes.

Oh yeah. There are times when I get impatient with it, or wish, fleetingly, that he would wean (especially these days with the tender, tender, pregnancy nipples! Yeeeowch!) but for the most part, I do love it. He's so busy and on the go so much these days, and it seems like I rarely see him!
So nursing is a nice time to connect and snuggle. We mostly nurse before/after sleep periods, so he snuggles right in and sometimes we doze. I also love that it instantly helps calm him down if he's having a meltdown. It's like the magic button(s). :LOL

Also, nursing is just about the only chance I get to read anymore!

Yes, I agree that nursing a toddler is just as special.
Just when I think he's more interested in the world than me, he comes up to be and points at my chest and says "BEEE!"

Not to mention it's so much easier to comfort all those bumps on the head when they're still consoled by nursing.

Most mamas enjoy nursing toddlers, Mcmrymoon, for their comments and experimentation that keep on changing and adding through the days. The other day, after giving a bath to my 15 month old DD I was patting her dry in the bathroom itself making her stand on a stool-table in the corner. As I patted her back with the towel she tentatively held my exposed left breast and started suckling. I was taken aback, more so when my DS (30 months) who was awaiting his turn to be bathed also came along, quietly climbed the stool and started nursing on my right one. They giggled at the joint-fun making me to stop for a while to let them nurse. They afterwards wanted to do the samething at the dining table standing on the two chairs, but I firmly cut it.

: My dd (29 mos) cups her "dushies" and says "awa dushy," which translates to "I love you, nurse." She also gives them kisses at bedtime.
She learned how to squirt 'em across the room the other day too - free entertainment!

I enjoy nursing a toddler more than I ever thought I would. He gets a look of amazement on his face and says "there's milk in there!" and pats my boobs. It's awesome. He also thinks bm tastes like ice cream (I asked, he answered! :LOL )

My DD has just moved into this phase of giving the milk sign or now with the new Crawling over and nursing! we call it "silly nursing" I ask her if she is going to SN and she says "Yeah". LOL it just to cute!

My sister -in-law did the same thing with her DD and my MIL was babysitting and giving her formula insted of BM also holding the bottle so it was facing forward
. my SIL thought nothing of it and weaned when her pump broke at 8mos. I felt bad for her not standing up for herself. Its hard to see that happen.
she siad to me I did a good job right? I hadent had Willa yet and I haddent even been prego but she wanted my approval. I felt bad.

There is something about a toddler/child actually being able to *say* how important nursing is to them. Of course, then you're stuck--- how do you wean when they are like, "But I LOOOOOVEEEEEEE Nursies!!!"
