It snowed AGAIN in Colorado yesterday and I thought I may need to turn myself into the loony bin....but instead I decided to treat myself to some new yarn ( and dh even encouraged it! )

I realize that this probably isn't a huge deal to most people, BUT I am not a huge fan of DPN..so for me it was a little bit of a leap!

I got plymouth sockotta fingering weight and #2 needles - a little intimidating as I have only used a 5 before this! But I like a thin sock & wanted to actually wear it when I was done

I am about 2 inches in and LOVING it! I hope I don't lose interest Wish me luck!!

Congrats!!!

I just started my first sock too. I'm using dpns and working on 4 needles.. I've got about oh.. 1/2". I'm making ankle socks. It's almost time for me to turn the heel and I'm scared! forget what the yarn is right now.. but it's a pretty self patterning wool blend. This is SO intimidating. I can't even do ribbing right but I know with practice I'll ge tbetter. Good luck to you. Don't forget to take pics of your progress

Hopefully you'll love it! I started my first sock somewhere in all of these snow storms (in the midst of two scarves I made for DD). She now has two pairs of socks, my newborn niece has one done and one to go, and I've started a pair for myself. Here's DD's two pairs.

But to deal with yesterday's snow, I stopped at the yarn store and bought some lovely alpaca yarn for a scarf for me. I'm also working on a twisted scarf pattern from One Skein Wonders that I started as soon as I heard it was going to snow (silly me...thinking that one-skein = fast and I'd have it in time for the snow). I guess I'm not convinced the snow is going to end anytime soon (ever?). :

Have fun with those socks. I can't wait to see pics.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Texaspeach you will have to show your progress for a little motivation

Lisa - love the socks! I never thought to do a toddler sock! It would be done by now

I think that the yarn I chose is one of the reasons I am loving it - Self striping yarn is just heavenly for me :

Me too!

I'm using small size 2s (2.5mm, not 2.75mm), and Louet Gems yarn. I have some Lorna's laces staring at me, too. I though I'd start with the less yummy yarn, and I think it was the right choice. The pattern I'm using has these funky YOs that are totally uneven, and I'm not happy with how they're turning out.

Although I think in the future I'll only make toddler socks. Why do my feet have to be so HUGE? I've turned the heel and done the decreases and know I have to knit seven miles of foot before I can finish.
