I think it's time to let my kitty go...He's a 15 YO Apple Faced Siamese...He has lost about half his body weight in the last 2 weeks, he has stopped eating...He's not doing well at all.

I feel like I'm being selfish making him stay...how can I convince myself to help him leave peacefully?

This may sound silly, but have you told him he can go?

My 14-yr-old collie/malamute mix passed away last month... he was really suffering over the weekend, and we had mostly decided to have him euthanized Monday. Sunday evening I told him, out loud, in my grief, that he didn't have to stay here for us. We would cry and miss him, always, but we would be ok.

He died very early the next morning. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it can't hurt, right? I was much more at peace with him going that way, you know?

My thoughts will be with you. I wish I had better advice.

I'm so sorry. I was there just two weeks ago. I don't have any words of wisdom or answers. All I can say is that he's depending on you to do what's good for him as I'm sure you always have.

My heart aches for you.

Spend some time alone with him. Love on him, talk to him and really *listen* to him. Look into his eyes and see if he's even still with you anymore.

This is the time where you have to do what's best for him, release him from his pain, even though it adds to yours.

Come back and talk to us about your kitty. He sounds beautiful. Share some stories and honor his life with you.

Thanks everyone for your support..it's been really difficult for me...my heart is breaking. He's been my best friend and constant companion for 15 years. He's been with me in the best and worst of times...he was even my boyfriend barometer...if Sebbie didn't like them, he was usually right. I should have learned to listen to his kitty instincts sooner, it would have saved me some of those bad times.

He slept peacefully last night, but still won't eat. I think tomorrow is the day. I will call the vet in the morning. I can't stand to see him suffer anymore.

Sebbie is blessed to have you as family.

I just went through this with my Ana ... she was fourteen.
I wanted to suggest (not sure of you experience with such things) that you can ask if your vet or vet tech will come to your house. This made it a lot easier on Ana and myself. We got to be together, at home, and had our tears to ourselves.
If it's not possible, you might ask if the vet has a back door you can come and go via, so that you can have some privacy.

Hugs, hon. I'll be thinking of you and your buddy.

Update:

Sebbie went to be with my mom at noon today. I kept hoping he just wouldn't wake up this morning, but he did and was so sad...I brought him to have some water and he could barely stand up and didn't drink much...he looked at me and meowed in the howely way that only a Siamese can. It was the first sound he had made in at least 24 hours. I knew he was telling me it was time.

It was peaceful for him...No last gasp or anything, he just laid his head down in my hand and left this world.

I'm going to miss him more than I can say.
