It could be that he's working something through--chew hooves are indigestible, so it should eventually come out one way or the other.

I would do the pumpkin. The cotton balls soaked in broth or cream work beautifully on small shards of things, like if a dog eats a christmas ornament, but I wouldn't want to add even more bulk if he's having trouble getting the hoof out of his stomach. If he's not better in a few days, or if at any point he starts really acting sick or runs a fever, I'd take him in to get checked out.
