But for every down side to autism, there seems to be a positive -- an unusual trait that rarely appears among the "typical" community, but shines out among autistic folk. These plusses are well worth celebrating.

Love it. Thanks.

7. Autistic People Are Less Materialistic
Of course, this is not universally true -- but in general, people with autism are far less concerned with outward appearance than their typical peers. The bold really stood out to me. This morning Max did his hair with half of his bangs combed to the side and the other half combed down.

I am on a few message boards with several autistic members, and my favorite thing about those particular members is that they NEVER read emotion in to forum posts and simply address the words, instead of getting all emotional about what the *think* the other person meant in some sort of non-existant subtext. It keeps debates as debates instead of flame wars and arguements.

I bookmarked it for myself on the darker days. I loved the last part, about how it made her focus less on a life of should and more on a life of is. I need to think about that more....and I'm guessing, that when I start to really understand it more, it's going to make my life a little happier.

Thank you.
