So I had a Dr. appt today. I also have a midwife that I am planning to homebirth with because I had a c-section last time I reaaaaaly don't want to be in the hospital this time. So anyway today my Dr. had the consent form for the VBAC and where you have to check whether you will have a trial of labor or a repeat c-section then sign it so I told him I am seriously considering getting a midwife and having a home birth. (Its actually all set, I just wanted to test the waters a bit and see his reaction) He was so supportive! Suprisingly supportive actually. He even went so far as to say that he would be happy to take any calls during the birth if the midwife has any questions, he said he would attend as well but his licence wouldn't allow it. Anyway one of the main reasons I don't want to be in the hospital is because there is no guarantee that he will actually be there for the birth, the dr's are all on call then he told me that he is moving away at the end of June! So he probably wouldn't be there anyway! Geez. I am glad that I already have the midwife because if the hospital birth was my plan I would really not like to deal with my Dr. moving away 2 weeks before my due date.
So I am happy, things are all falling into place!

Yeah for happy Dr. stories today! I had something similar happen, my midwife (CNM with huge OB group practice, don't like any of them, CNM's included) left the practice without letting me know. I wasn't too fond of her, but she was the best of the lot. I found out at my last appointment on Tuesday. DH and I were pretty peeved. Anyway, we have a home birth planned with a different midwife and were going to use the big practice as back up, but keep it quiet so we won't get dropped. Like you, we were so relieved to have that plan already in place.

Sounds like your Dr. is a great guy. Sorry he is leaving, though. Good luck with your HBAC!!

He is not an OB. He is a family Dr. They have a family medecine group which work together on call for births, that is why he might not have been there for the birth. He said his replacement has a very high VBAC success rate though and the whole group in general have a very good rate as well.

That's just so great. So glad for you! But too bad he's moving away. The whole practice being on a similar wavelength is good news though.

I'm sure your MW will be happy to hear these doctors being so supportive too. Has she worked with this group before?

I will have an appt with my midwife next week so I will ask her if she has worked with them before. She is a private midwife so they basically have to work illegally so they don't really work with the Dr's.
