I didn't want to do it on Easter because I was afraid of a big to-do, but I figured I needed to tell so nobody asked why I wasn't drinking wine after my supposed Lenten fast. My mom, whom I love dearly, stayed true to form, though, and said, "I was pretty sure it couldn't be just your diet that was failing." Thanks, Mom.

Our son, on the other hand, was really excited. I showed him a picture of the u/s, and told him that the little blob in the corner was a new baby. He paused for a few seconds with wide eyes. Then, he got a big smile and asked, "You mean we're going to have a new baby?!" He's been patting my tummy with this sweet little smile since.

I love my mom because I understand her. She realized she should have kept her mouth shut and tried to ease the comment a minute later. Too late. I was really offended at first, but now I just look at it as a classic "mom comment." I'm glad ds is excited!
