My mom just upgraded to an i-phone and now has no need for her i-touch. She is giving it to my DS for Christmas. He's almost 7.

I know nothing about the i-touch. If your kids have it, can you recommend some things that they like to do on it?

He likes to play games on my cell phone so I am sure we will download some games on it. But is there anything else besides games?

apps for games, flashcards, facts, languages (my kids like the spanish tutor/interpreter), Music (of course), videos including youtube, I'm trying to think of what else... you can look through the apps and see what's recommended for kids. Mine love stuff like tic tac toe, and race car games (you actually steer with the iphone itself).

Audiobooks, music, moves and TV shows, games galore. My 3 year old could not live without his. It is a hand me down from DH and I and I was shocked at how many apps there are that are geared towards kids, even preschoolers! It is hands down his favorite and most prized possession.

Many apps are free - in fact, I only use free ones because I'm cheap.

My favorite free apps are:
Hangman
Air Hockey
Bubblewrap (you pop as many as you can in 30 seconds)
Bowling

I haven't explored free apps in a while, I need to see what else is around these days.

My iPod touch was a freebie gift from my parents who got it from their bank for opening some accounts, and they had no desire for it. I LOVE it, and so do the kids - it's guaranteed to keep them occupied in a line or waiting for 10 min or so, when I've exhausted I-Spy and other word games.

My dd has her own MP3 player, and at this point, uses it exclusively (and exhaustively) to listen to audio books.

My DD uses my iphone all the time.

She likes to check the weather, listen to stories (we are currently loving the story home pod cast), watch sesame street shorts (another pod cast), listen to music, play music (drums, piano, guitar), and of course play games (currently chess!)

There are tons of games and applications out there that are free. New ones pop up every week. If you are willing to spend 99 cents now and then there are tons more.

If you are in a wifi zone you can also connect to the internet. Wikipedia has been awesome for looking up and answering random questions that come up.

It might even have a camera. There are tons of photo apps out there to play with.

I plan on giving my 6 year old DD my iphone when I upgrade to the new one sometime next year. Without phone service it is just an ipod touch.
