I want to make doublers/inserts for my pocket dipes. I have been using a wash cloth, but want something trim. Can you go to the fabric store to buy hemp? Is it a certain kind of hemp? How many layers should they be and what are the demintions to fit into a small pocket dipe?

TIA!

I'm planning to do the same thing. I bought hemp terry and fleece from fabriconnection.com (Jessica posts here often). She suggested that I do two layers of the hemp and with one of the fleece. I plan to sErge (sp?) the edges.

My order just shipped. I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't have a serger, and I am a *amiture* semstress (really really amiture). Will my Brother sewing machine handle 3 layers of hemp zig zaged? Also can I get hemp at the local fabric store? Is it jersey hemp or something else? And you only need 3 layers?? Sorry for all the Qs...

Ok, you probably won't find hemp in a fabric store, I've never seen any. There are 3 types of hemp that are commonly sold. Hemp french terry(like a towel on one side and jersey on the other) Hemp French Terry Fleece(jersey on back, fleece on the front) and hemp jersey. You only need 2-3 layers b/c it is more absorbant than regular cotton.
