You know it is so frustrating that moms that live here (US) cannot take their sons to the dr without always having to worry about retraction. Seriously. After reading yet another thread about the concern and fear a mom feels when she needs to take her ds to the dr, I have to wonder when the heck are we finally going to get it together?<br><br>
The amount of ignorance about the care needed (or actually lack thereof) of an intact penis in the US is truly mind blowing.<br><br>
WTF are these Drs learning in medical school? Obviously not what they need to. UGH!!!!!<br><br>
and I do not even have a ds, I just feel badly for the stress that moms (and dads) go through just trying to get basic care for their child. This is pathetic. Do we have to sponsor a seminar or something? Petition congress for a requirement for education on the care of an intact penis. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:<br><br>
Moms shouldn't have to print out contracts and remember to remind every single health care worker their child comes in contact with to not retract.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:<br><br><br><br><br>

yet another reason why i've never had any trust in doctors. i don't understand it either. i guess they were all off getting stoned the day they were supposed to learn about how to properly care for an intact penis. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/shake.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shake">

We can petition all we want but in my short little political memory (I'm 21) ... doesn't it take YEARS to get anything passed??

That's making a big assumption that that day even existed in their medical training.

I think a big part of the problem is the languege used in the guide lines they say not to <b><i>force</i></b> retraction. That leaves alot up to the Dr's judjement (which can be wrong.)

How can they learn about intact care when their text books often don'e even show any pictures of diagrams of an intact penis?

There is a assumption that 'gentle' retraction is ok and 'forceful' is not.<br><br>
The difference between the two is subjective.<br><br>
Nobody is going to consider their style of retraction is forceful.<br><br>
Retraction is retraction.

ITA! Retraction is retraction is retraction.<br><br>
The difference comes in the adjective that one chooses to place in front of the word 'retraction'. Why are people so quick with the "hmm, wonder what happens if I do this?" garbage, especially on infants?!.<br><br>
My cousin, with whom I have a very good, friendly relationship with (she also kept her son intact over 16 years ago) told me that she was told by the gp to "gently" retract the foreskin, and she did it! When she said that I might need to do the same, I let her know that that was not right. My son will retract when he's good and ready and that there is not magic age at which he will retract. She was so open and receptive to that information, that she was hoping to find this now-retired-gp to let him know that he was wrong (believe me, she has no fear!). I have recommended this site to her (which would suit her to a 'T') and I hope she shows up.
